  • Thank you very much. I created the post.

  • Canvas @toast.ooo

    Tools for Canvas: Cotemplate

  • I'm happy that my tool is useful for some, so thanks for brining it up :)

@grant@toast.ooo I would be glad if it gets more attention. The usecase described by misericordiae is exactly one I had in mind (another one is that finding free areas is less difficult with a global template). If you need any more information before linking it somewhere public, feel free to comment or DM.

  • How would you compare Elixir with Kotlin (or similar) in terms ease of use and efficiency?

  • Programming @programming.dev

    Experiences with the Erlang ecosystem

  • This is a known bug which I only noticed after creating the release. So I'm glad that I didn't enable the feature for all by default. Another reason for it not being on by default is that it creates additional load on the database for every load of the combined page (if sorted by new).

  • Uh, where did you see a commit of him? I never saw him opening a PR or so.

  • Lemmy seems to just take the first item there and then abort if it's an image not a link.

That is correct. But so reordering would result in losing the image. I linked to the issue at Lemmys GH and it was marked as resolved just recently, so they should be able to consume multiple attachments soon.

I don't understand why Mbin is using source instead of url.

This I also don't know, but as we also put it in the attachments, it should be fine.

  • The issue that Lemmy is not showing the link of an image is also attached was already reported by us. According to the GitHub issue history it was recently resolved, so it should work in the next Lemmy release.

  • ActivityPub has been around for 8 years, and IMO, the Fediverse is not evolving. It is not federating the way ActivityPub was designed for.

From this I thought you are referring to the fedi platforms in general. I saw later you wrote specifically about Lemmy; so ok.
\ Still, my example shows that the Fediverse is evolving (even if it might be slow). Lemmy and Mastodon might be the biggest platforms out there, but they might not be the ultimate prestige examples of our network.

  • They said Diaspora never gained support, not Friendica.

  • I can't show you directly, as fedia.io requires login to access the platform (scraper protection), but I was able to open the channel by searching for their handle, the page showed up videos (also recent ones) and the video-posts had comments. The page show the channel-logo and every post had the thumbnail of the video.
\ One click on the title when you have to post open, and it will open the original page in a new tab, which then can play the video. Even better: Mbin automatically inserts the embedded viewer for the posted video, so you don't even have to leave fedia.

So please don't draw conclusions from Lemmy to all fedi projects.

  • And for some fedi projects even a handful of regular contributors would be much.

    or hate for other platforms?

I contribute to Mbin out of passion for the Fediverse and the idea Mbin is build upon. But hate against bigtech is also a factor here and there :D

  • That is not really correct, posts are represented differently from threads in Mbin (internally and in the UI). You don't have to post to a specific magazine / community. If you want your post to just float around in the Fediverse (so have the post associated with just your account + hashtags) you choose the random magazine for the post.
\ I admit that this is not really intuitive and the random magazine is a crutch for this platform to handle plain posts. To make it a bit easier to grasp I created a PR to select the random magazine if one is not on a magazine page.

But all of what you described is possible with Mbin. As an example I created this post (using the form on the generic microblog page) which you can see under posts on my local account. I would like to add links to federated Mbin and Mastodon instances, but nobody follows me, so remote instances don't pull posts.

What is currently not possible is to follow hashtags (but you can list posts), but I am going to implement this soon.

  • What exactly do you mean "to a profile"? Can you give an example of the difference (I never used Mastodon)?

  • Could you describe your problem in more detail?

Microblogs are always associated to your profile. If you want to post something which is not meant for a specific magazine, the random magazine is what you need to use. It is a pseudo-magazine (and so not federated as a community) which aggregates all microblog posts which are not attached to a real magazine.
