conducted a poll casually while managing to get a 100% participation rate
It's been a while since i've taken Statistics but i'm pretty sure 40% participation is exceptionally high for a demographic poll.
less than half indicated that they were definitively not cisgender
It is just as accurate to say that less than half indicated that they definitively are cisgender - it depends on if you include questioning individuals is a part of the culturally dominant majority cisgender group, or if you view the questioning of your socially-reinforced gender as a departure from the norm.
Hexbear, per prolewiki has “over 1,400 monthly users”.
A sample group of 42% in any survey would be considered a high-quality representation, even when including the likelihood of response bias. But, then again, there's still even less evidence for assuming it's inaccurate simply because trans and communist identities are extremely uncommon in the general population - especially when hexbear is explicitly a trans-friendly leftist space.
Hexbear existed as its own thing long before there were any lib instances to troll. It's far more likely that their ideological framework is earnest and is simply incompatible with your own.
They conduct their own demographic polling - unless you believe their users are lying about their identity there is more demographic evidence in support of that figure than there is evidence to the contrary.
Denying the self-reported identity of a marginalized person is absolutely bigoted, and those demographics come directly from self-reported polling data.
Unless you are simply unaware that they conduct their own demographic polling, dismissing those demographics as 'not real' is the same thing as accusing those users of lying about being trans
I wonder where those demographics came from.
"I definitely do not believe half their users are trans"
Because our empire is collapsing
Real 'chicken or egg' vibes with that one
I'd be lying if I said I don't do that myself
I can't think of anything more american than complaining about anti-american bias while accusing everyone else of just being jealous
Yea, they were comparing tiktok to other american-owned social media sites, which are guilty of exactly the same thing themselves.
Any site that doesn't explicitly push anti chinese content is going to look like a pro-chinese bias
(there are several people in this thread who would not mind banning certain lemmy instances on this basis)
I wonder if op has a strong opinion about china.
Maybe, but there is clearly someone in this situation that is exploiting their position as a capital owner, and it isn't the renters.
Neither will I belabor the point about presuming high earners to be a part of the bourgeoisie.
Class is about labor relations, not income.
At best those people are petty bourgeois, but they are still renting in this case, so still being exploited by a capitalist. By any marxist interpretation they'd still be working-class.
I think that's pretty common.
It's definitely a dopamine thing for me because it's not just food. Some nights I'll stay up late looking for a distraction that scratches that itch, even though I'm exhausted.
Sir, this is a Wendy's
The extended release version gave me more of the side effects and less of the benefits, unfortunately
I think it's the same dopamine-seeking behavior that's exasperated by my poor health habits, and those have admittedly been really bad of late.
I am always surprised when I am reminded of people who use amphetamine meds off-label for weight loss, because even though I don't have an appetite while I'm taking them, there's always a few hours before bed after they wear off when I can't stop myself from eating everything in the pantry.
probably isnt being surveiled or protected in any meaningful way.
You should probably assume all of these properties at least have video doorbells and smart cameras
Doesn't mean you couldn't be brazen about it, especially if you have nothing to lose
Over the weekend I set up some outdated wyze v3 cameras with hacked firmware to enable rtsp, and was able to load the stream into frigate to do some mouse-infestation detection. This worked great, and it was with hardware I already had laying around, but now i'm in need of some more coverage and I don't want extension cords hanging from my basement ceiling everywhere.
I thought there might be another ~$50 wifi battery camera somewhere out there that could be hacked or had native rtsp support, but my search is coming up short.... seems like either people settle for cloud-polling cheap ones or they splurge on some real quality mid-range ones. Anyone know of any cheap options?
For those curious, here's the git repo for the wyzecams i found. It's as easy as loading a micro-sd with the firmware, giving it an ssh key, and then turning it back on. Then you can ssh into it over the network and enable things like rtsp and a bunch of other features i don't know what to do with. It has proven to be handy, but it doesn't support the outdoor battery-powered models.
Former President Barack Obama on Thursday admonished Black men who he believes have not adequately supported Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, telling them it’s “not acceptable” to sit out this election and suggesting they might be reluctant to vote for Harris because she’s a woma...
He then ends up suggesting the reason they don't like Harris is because she's a woman -
“Because part of it makes me think – and I’m speaking to men directly – part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.”
Just a few days after the rapper Macklemore was announced as a headliner of the inaugural Neon City Festival in downtown Las Vegas, he has been dropped from the lineup.
>News that the rapper was removed from the Neon City lineup comes after his performance at the Palestine Will Love Forever Festival in Seattle over the weekend. A video of Macklemore yelling "Yeah, f— America!" during his performance has since been viewed over a million times on social media.
