  • Well ribbit can eff off. Imo it's more important that we keep in mind what the article says:

Understand what is truly at stake. For decades Israel has acted in the settled expectation that it answers to no one, underwritten by the certainty that its Western friends would always look away.

That assumption is what is now on trial in Canberra. The moment a trusted ally follows the evidence wherever it leads, the spell breaks, and other capitals discover they can ask the question too. This is why the world is watching a story that began with a few small boats.

The era of impunity rested on a single belief. That no friend would ever break ranks. A friend just did.

Ad WE must not let up making sure our govt knows we are not forgetting that the assaults on the flotilla Australians are being investigated. We are and will demand answers.

  • You may well be right. At least a decade before Epstein's name became household I remember reading that it was common practice for Israeli intelligence operatives to do exactly what you say.

  • As the article says. our govt is not investing enough in research, harm reduction and treatment as are needed. The community in general doesn't want to think about it either. As society becomes more economically and otherwise unstable we will lose increasing numbers to overdoses. Why are middle-aged men the biggest group losing their lives? This must be investigated for their sake and for the sake of families left behind.

  • Let’s not further isolate our society. Parents should feel free to bring their kids along places so they can still socialise.

Totally agree. And it's not that difficult to find quiet places. I'd like to see more kids out and about be safe and playing, laughing, screaming, whatever, or meeting other people in the company of their parents so they learn about community and communication. So many kids are cooped up with their parents and with gadgets indoors day in and day out.

it's like we want to warehouse the old, warehouse the kids and warehouse precious adults. This is no way to have a healthy community.

  • Amazing how advanced economies can develop and organise the most complex of systems when it comes to money markets, surveillance and war weaponry but have been stumped for decades by plastic waste management. Can you tell where the profits are and social responsibility is not?

  • 20% are ill-informed or don't want to be. 1 in 5 people thinking it's excusable to mass murder your way to 'security' is a stain on our society. The society of the 'fair go', what? Any politician bringing up the Eurovision crap show can't sink any lower. But maybe they can.

  • It's all very new to me. I started seriously using social media only about 4 yrs ago. That was Fb and I was kicked off that probably because of my political ideas though they fabricated some other excuse. Then I came to HERE! I'm still a beginner.

  • I agree about not using X, but for writers/journos/commentators etc who want to get their message through to as many people as possible, it's only logical that they go to the most popular media no matter how nasty it is. If they only wrote in social media like Lemmy they'd be speaking mostly to the converted and to a much, much smaller cohort.

So, we need to grow Lemmy, right?

  • I believe she is directing the information to people who are users of X and other mainstream media. I am sure she is not limiting herself to just X. She is on Substack as well as other mass social media. I use her email mailing list.

I find information through her that I do not find elsewhere. I respect her greatly. She has the courage and integrity.
