  • Same, also 12 years in and no history of problems. Quoted someone calling a female user a "bitch" so they couldn't edit and reported them, I got flagged and banned from the large subreddit for "using a slur." I appealed and had the pleasure of talking to a mod grade-schooler with temper problems so the appeal was denied and as a result, somehow... for reasons that are still unclear, my entire account was then banned. Admins did not care. I made a new account and was shadowbanned immediately.

I could go through the hoops and change my IP and all that fun stuff if I really want to participate on reddit.

    But I don't.

  • It's already in motion, we may not have public caning for a few more years but we will have a whole new ripe population segment to fill our for-profit prison industry!

After that, they will go after interracial marriages under the guise of "stopping foreign terrorists from becoming citizens through marriage" and require all marriage licenses to specify the races of the couple for a registered database. And at this point, I will be yelling at people on forums and social media saying "Don't you see what they're doing??" and will be called "reactionary" and "fearmongering" kind of like when I said they were going to end legal abortion and start rounding up non-whites for concentration camps and that they will deploy the military to the cities of political opponents.

I don't know 2024 rates but in 2022 it was about 7 per day.

What makes us blind to these numbers is that black children are 18 times more likely to be a victim of gun violence. Inner-city gang violence and relics of segregation are still with us, and the media doesn't report it as an issue because it's just "expected" that there are black kids shooting each other in cities. That way we don't have to do anything.

I mean, who else is gonna fill our for-profit prisons? Gotta have a hopeless segment of the population!

  • Sorry but I read that whole thing as "I am a victim whaa whaa I expect someone to come do something"

You baby. You are a child.

Wake up, use the tools you have. We have broken politics and broken people running shit so you either do what you can to use what's given to you or you shut up and don't complain when they send drones after you for looking at porn.

FFS I'm not talking to pathetic victims. Bye.

  • Several points need to be made.

While Biden was president he passed a list of progressive policies and protections that do not get covered by media, from worker protections and consumer protections and union protections. He was a lame president but he still pushed the needle according to pressure and that's literally the BEST we can hope for in this environment and people who don't get that are living in pure dreamland delusion.

The idea is that you keep pushing the system, you get a Biden here and there, and you push the needle. Then sometimes a real progressive gets in power and builds on that progress and takes it further. You don't make this happen overnight, and as corrupt as the Democratic establishment is, their weakness is they HAVE to bow to popular pressure in some way, even if it's lame, token appeasement, you start collecting tokens. We had more progress from Democrats than republicans, and sure it would be nice to have something new, but we don't get there if you lazy fucks keep losing interest and giving up because you get tired of seeing the latest old white dude.

The alternative is what we're experiencing now.

And he didn't lead to Trump being elected, Trump was already elected once before, Biden was just filler between social manipulation campaigns by the far-right. Could we have countered those campaigns? Probably not, we had rising right-wing fascism for decades already, and the left mishandled that as well, not being able to read the fucking room broadly.

He was not your bastion of leftist, socialist inclusion. We aren't getting that, ya'll need to get your head out of your asses and understand how politics is played and how deep in the shit we are.

  • Sorry to break this to you, but we're down in the fucking deep end now. We're getting another monster because everyone has been like this forever. If not that monster, than another one. The system, if there still is one in a few years, is not going to flex where you want it. All of this is a consequence.

I have been saying for decades that if we keep pushing the needle towards social progress we will get there eventually, but liberals don't want it pushed further, and leftists don't want to be patient and plant trees they won't sit in the shade of, etc, and didn't want to keep up constant, consistent pressure, they want the perfect socialist Jesus to come turn the US into a perfect, racism-free country overnight... OR NOTHING.

    Enjoy your nothing people.

  • OOH OOH I KNOW! We should all argue about if the efforts by [PERSON] to push back on the literal tyrants mobilizing the military against political opponents is actually a good thing or not, and fold our arms performatively if [PERSON] didn't hit EVERY FUCKING CHECKBOX ON THE MASSIVE SCROLL OF INCLUSION AND PERFECT POLITICS.

Because every time we do that... well, we lose miserable and lose more rights and protections, BUT AT LEAST WE CAN BE SMUG THAT WE DIDN'T SETTLE FOR LESS THAN PERFECT.

  • Literally, but the sad truth we need to accept is that this is the only way most people engage with anything outside of themselves and their own world: through some dramatic narrative retelling in their heads.

It has been like this for millenia, since before we had words, we had series of images and imagined events chained together in our minds that made us feel things, or explained the way we felt.

We have the exact same brains we did tens of thousands of years ago, we are the same story-creature that rather understand the world through a story of heroes and villains than logic and understanding of systems.

This is what Trump capitalized on, likely drawing from his experience close to WWE and its owners and managers, to learn how people engage with media through cognitive dissonance, and he supplied narratives and dramatic retellings of complex stories to simple minds and won them over so thoroughly it's now basically a cult.

If we understood this sooner, we might have been able to get in the middle like Newsom is doing now, and create more engaging stories for them that serve greater good. But we thought ourselves better than that, and tried to scold, educate and demand more from a class of people who simply rather "see their wrestler win."

  • Everyone knows. Nobody cares enough to do anything. He is the most powerful man on Earth and he's currently mobilizing the military against cities in the united states.

It might be time to set the epstein shit to the side and start like... getting up and getting geared up for actual civil disobedience and group action. The physical kind.

  • My childhood self to my adult self: "So you're saying there are going to be artificial intelligences in my lifetime? Wow! That's so cool, are they going to be all smart and logical like Data? And can do everything a person can do but better?"

"More like emotionally unbalanced, habitual liars who rarely behave as they're told, and cannot do basic tasks or even analyze a spreadsheet without getting distracted and trying to start a cult, but they really love to make weird art and bad writing. Nobody knows how they work, but people are trying to put them in charge of everything."

    "oh."

  • He wasn't elected because he covered up his involvement with Epstein. People didn't care then, they're not going to care now, especially now that he's buried the case legally and will never see a courtroom about it. People are not interested in a narrative that won't go anywhere and most people have already moved on.

Injustice sucks, it hurts. I know. But this is real and it's happening and it's a LOT of injustice and there may never be a satisfying resolution.

Now that said, using our nation's military to occupy and control the cities of political opponents is a much bigger immediate threat to everyone and everything we hold dear, THIS is the kind of action many of us were laughed at for warning people about, we were called over-reactive and accused of being unrealistically hyperbolic. And here we are, the administration is doing it and still nobody is getting up and marching on the capital. Do you think they're going to get up and march about fucking Epstein?

  • That resonates with… Jesus Christ… SO many people.

The majority of people are not getting that riled up about it even if they care. You are underestimating how bad the cognitive dissonance is in the country.

As long as business continues as usual, most people are not engaged in politics, they are just watching to see what happens. Trump isn't going to face any repercussions about it, he's literally the most powerful person on Earth and can make the whole thing go away legally, as he has done.

Trump didn't get elected despite being a rapist, he was elected because of it, because people wanted a villain on the stage because our country's brains are fried with Kayfabe/WWE spectacle and rather "see what happens" than make responsible electoral decisions.

All that aside, the national guard being used by Trump to militarize and occupy cities is a much more clear and present danger to democracy and we're STILL not getting up and marching as a country, so do you REALLY think people are going to hold his feet to the fire over an intangible, word-of-mouth crime that isn't going to amount to anything dramatic?

The epstein case is both real and a distraction. It can be both.

  • Wait, you mean you weren't boycotting and crying about the old logo and forcing the company to remove the image of the guy sitting by the barrel? I mean, I'm sure ONE of us leftists was outraged and screaming about it and forcing a good, hard-working American company to change its ways, if it wasn't you, then who could it have been??

Well whoever did it, I sure feel "owned" by the right over all this. They sure scored a victory over wokeness on this round 🙄
