what do you say

  • Similar issue with my friend on couple occasions asking if I'm a girl and my step mom also asking. Mostly because of hair. But I've always answered no since I'm not (as far as I'll admit to myself).

  • what do you say

  • Could just be a statement, not intendent to be complement or taunt? But I'd assume more likely to be a taunt because that's my basically my default assumption about most complements.

  • Who did? I was responding to someone who brought up that issue, so my response was related to their point and my comment was mostly intended to focused on how the lack of certain resources could negatively impact those who are dependent on those things.

Otoh, the the difference in travel modalities makes a big difference in what problems there are and my comparison to hurricane evacuations obviously lacked in that respect. It's only natural someone would point out that limitation of my comparison.

  • I'd say it's more of a g8ish centrism. I don't care about French news in particular. But their protests get a lot of world new attention. I doubt equivalent protests in a place like Hungary would get similar attention, but it would if it were Japan.

  • True... probably actually a benefit that they don't have cars as they're less efficient than just walking. But for those who physically aren't able to walk for hours straight (depending on how far they need to go), some alternative mobility is needed.

  • Even if it is, speculating about that without any solid evidence just makes your argument seem weak imo.

Bad things happen and there are those who are more than willing to take advantage of those events. Doesn't matter if its tsunamis or genocides: there's people looking to exploit the situation for their own gain and have the power to do so at the suffering of huge numbers of people. That doesn't mean resort business owners are making artificial earthquakes.

  • I sometimes like seeing people say hateful things about groups I'm a part of or directly to me (online) because I think its funny how ridiculous some people are. Granted, its missing the "certain to make me feel bad" part.

  • As wild pointed out, France has a reputation for frequent and massive protests regularly (compared to places like the US). Like, I was partly joking about the recent news thing because its a meme at this point. Obviously I don't know what was in the mind of theacharnian, but my first thought was to think about what most recently happened when France made major news for protests against banning protests.

  • Seems like a pretty reasonable reaction to me? What other notable protests would people who didn't die 200 years ago think of? I don't really follow French news, so maybe I'm missing other more recent stuff?

  • Also technically in a management position, but 90% of my work is what I was doing before the promotion and its not that I'm doing less of that stuff (I'm doing more of it). I just have extra responsibilities like more emails and making sure we have supplies. I hope people don't really think of me as a "boss." Given its a small company, my boss is the owner and all the workers were interviewed, hired by, and regularly interact with said person. But I know no one at my job would accuse me of not doing any work.
