Yep. My first email address started with x.400, first BBS was Heartland Freenet, first newsreader was Usenet, 3600 baud modem at home, connecting through OCLC.

I miss the computer being at work and not at my house. When you left work for the day, you left work. Now we all have laptops and are expected to be able to work anytime, anywhere.

Anybody else remember the 30lb “portable” Compaqs?

I should clarify that we had a few computers, but only in college. (Am old.) That picture up there reminds me of when my first firm finally got PC's. No mice, all keyboard. Before that they were IBM word processors with the 10 inch dual floppy drives that looked like toasters.

Well , not for something like this. The olympian was held for five hours and released. Hearing date is July 9. If he even has an employer (he may be retired), his boss would just laugh if he said, “Yeah, so I got arrested, and this is why…” (Now, if he’d been arrested on suspicion of murder or something, that would be another issue altogether.)

As Congress takes up next year’s budget, the Trump administration is pushing for even deeper cuts. Last month, the administration proposed a rule that would require federal grants to be approved by political appointees and to “demonstrably advance the president’s policy priorities.” Under that rule, grant making may slow down even more.

In Atlanta last year, I watched one of these turning in tight circles for a couple minutes before I got bored and moved on. At least it wasn’t in the street.
