  • I know they wanted to buy a warehouse in western MD to house 1500 prisoners; I saw an interview with the head of the local water utility who said the building had two toilets and two water fountains. “If they want to house 1500 people there, they’re going to need to run more water out there. And no one has talked to me about this.” I don’t get the impression this whole thing was very well thought out.

  • This would make an amazing tattoo

  • holy crap

many yrs ago I was invited to mod some sub (I forget which) and I politely declined, because I knew the temptation to ban people would be overwhelming. I figured it was better for everyone if I didn't have such powers (even if I didn't use them).

  • also, be aware that some instances don't "do" downvotes at all, so some of us can't see them. (This post has 44 upvotes as far as I can see. if it also has 100 downvotes, I can't see them.)

    ETA: now it’s up to 70 99.

  • so what did we (U.S.) get out of of this whole fiasco? Anything?

  • well, right now, google is demanding who knows how many captchas before it will do my search; DDG is not. So that's what I'm using. -quak-

  • Depends on the job. Some state employees get pensions, yes. Private employers usually do not provide pensions. The majority of people are going to get Social Security after they reach a certain age, but only if they've worked for a certain number of years. And Social Security can be as little as $1200/month. (It was never intended to be someone's sole income in retirement, just a supplement.)

  • welp, guess I won't be looking at those things, then. DuckDuckGo it is.

  • Damn, reading these makes my horse piss look positively tame.
