I have to say goodbye to my best friend tomorrow
  • This sucks. I am sorry for your absolutely devastating decision, OP. It is so hard and so hurtful to have to choose and yet there is so much grace and love in doing so. I am sending you a hug and the promise that he will be hurting no more❤️

  • What are you going to be better at by the end of the year?
    • Setting and enforcing boundaries around holidays.
    • Sticking to a consistent sleeping schedule.
    • Exercising most days than not.
    • Listen to me first and keep tuning out all outside noise.
    • Managing things step by step in the best way circumnstances allow.
  • What did you do the last time you had a day all to yourself (no work, no chores, no obligations of any kind)?
  • Family left for a camping trip so I had a weekend all for myself. Went to an XVIII convent with a friend and it was great! Last time I had gone to one was like fifteen years ago so this made me very happy.

Later had fish fish for dinner, family is not too happy about my fish cooking choices.

Next day I went shopping for art materials and had lunch at a nice coffee place, then came back and baked brownies so the house would smell delicious when my people came back.

  • What was the last skill you learned and how?
  • Well, I kept trying to squat like most people do trying so hard not to lean forward and kept falling over on my ass lol. That and also I couldn't feel the work in my glutes, only quads. Are you familiar with the way little children squat? I still can't do it but getting better every day by practicing.

Turns out I have super tight hips and that prevented me of hinging correctly, plus the aformentioned femur/torso ratio.

I hired a personal trainer in january of this year to help me out with stuff and she helped me correct my form. Now I use a pair of those foam wedge things under my heels to prop me up in a better position and I can squat way better. It was a game changer.

  • What are your best tips for falling asleep?
  • I had insomnia for decades. I did everything under the sun: workout, hot shower, warm milk, counting, breathing techniques, melatonin (beware of side effects with continous use), no screens, etc etc. Nothing worked and then per my doctor's orders I take magnesium glycinate and it works like magic

  • Stress
  • I hope this result doesn't put you off of looking for the help you need. Remember that this is just a tool out of many available now and while this wasn't for you, that doesn't mean there's not something for you out there.

  • TIL there's a town called "Xbox" in Yucatán, southeastern Mexico
  • Interesting factoid: X-box (hyphenated) comes from the ancient Mayan Xboox where "X" is the femenine article and "boox" the noun meaning black/dark, literally meaning "The dark one".

The town got its name after a local legend that stated that a dark woman figure appeared by the town's water well.

  • Mystery/ crime/ horror novel recommendations?

ETA: I have read and downloaded many of your recommendations and have had lots of fun reading them! You are such a welcoming enthusiastic bunch. Thanks a lot! Still looking for more suggestions in case someone wants to add to the ever growing list. So far this year I have read twenty seven books.

Looking for some good mystery novels/short story compilation, etc. Preferably no sci fi or futuristic stuff, no Stephen King. TIA.

FWIW just finished reading "We have to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver. It was OK.

Do any of you get into a feeding rut at times? Do you particularly enjoy/hate it?

As stated above. I can go months without eating an egg, for example, and suddenly crave eggs benedict for breakfast everyday.

Good thing is my dietitian is aware of this executive dysfunction/quirk/habit and works closely with me to help me out planning meals in a way that works me.

Right now I am on a soup kick: Soup, soup, soup everyday, all day.
