dont underestimate my rule to get nyah~
  • It's soju, a Korean grain spirit, traditionally made with rice. This one is peach flavored, which means it barely tastes like alcohol and goes down extra easy, since most soju nowadays is low proof liquor.

  • [Meta] Closed - Soulslike(-adjacent) Giveaway!
  • I love seeing lemmy game giveaways :) I am not entering the giveaway, but Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, and Elden Ring are all so good!

Druid, I am not in the EU, but if you PM me I'd be happy to PayPal you some funds to add a few copies of Blasphemous! I just picked it back up after dropping it the first time around (on switch), but I'm really enjoying it now.

(Or, if someone can go halfsies with me on Lies of P, I'd be willing to chip in for that instead)

  • What are something you immediately took for granted and were surprised about?
  • I can handle shitty graphics, it's the framerates that really mess with me.

I sometimes forget that some games on Switch cap at 30fps. Jumping from a 165hz display running 165fps to a 60hz display running 30fps is... a bit jarring.

  • ChimeraOS 46-1 released fixing up some AMD issues, sound fix on some AYANEO & AYN devices
  • Where do all the logos of this style come from? They all look so same-y and bland. I've seen octopi, sharks, lions, eagles, bears, etc. all in this generic youtube gamer font, with bottom-of-the-barrel 'mascot' designs. Anyone else tired of this?

  • Education Activists Urge Harris Not to Tap Josh Shapiro for VP
  • Ah yes, the solution is to give a few students in each poorly-funded school district the opportunity to go to a well-funded private school instead of just funding the public schools.

The charter school grift is evolving.

  • people who deliver or install things to people 's houses. what kind of odd things have you seen?
  • As a teenager, my parents would only let me have a PC if it was situated outside of my room, so naturally, I put my setup in my basement. I was excited to play games in the coolest (temp-wise) room in the house, up until the day a camel cricket decided to jump up my pants and continue to work its way up until I smashed it against myself.

    Yuck.

  • Too much of a good thing? Spain's green energy can exceed demand, country is looking at storing capacity or buyers to solve electricity oversupply
  • Cool to see this come up! I recently had to write a (mock) proposal regarding different efforts to store excess green energy and I had a blast reading about gravity batteries and pumped hydro. Hopefully, these projects come along sooner than later, as widespread adoption will take much longer than the first several implementations.

Another neat tidbit I learned while researching pumped hydro is that hydroelectric dams actually use the remaining inertia of the spinning generators to pump water back up the dams, which is much like the idea of regenerative braking in EVs.

  • Oral-B bricking Alexa toothbrush is cautionary tale against buzzy tech
  • I just wanted to point out that Oral B's basic electric toothbrushes still range from $45-$80, so it's not quite as cheap as you say it is. Your point still stands in its entirety. The only thing that makes this product different from the $45 model is the Alexa functionality, and taking that away makes it effectively not the same product.

  • how's your week going, Beehaw
  • Computer anxiety can be pretty awful. I'm in a long distance relationship as well, and when my partner's laptop broke (charger port issue) we were stuck communicating only through their phone. For a couple that likes to remotely play games together and watch media together, this is a huge roadblock.

We ended up utilizing a (used) chromebook as a temporary solution until we were able to regain access to the laptop after repairs.

  • Anyone have tips and resources on DIY Cables?

I made a DIY cable for my Sundaras and they turned out fine, but next time I want to try for thinner cables, with four braided cores instead of two thick dual-core wires. On top of this, I plan to apply that knowledge towards IEM cables too.

Any tips, advice, and/or resources for learning? I understand the general premise, but could use input on things like where to source y-splitters, what kind of cables aren't snake oil, how to pull off an 8-strand braid as easily as they do in the youtube tutorials... etc.

EDIT: Also! I was looking at 2.5mm balanced cable schematics, and essentially each side of the cable should have independent ground, populating each TRRS contacts correspondingly? Hopefully I'm not far off
