I quote the lawyers: "it depends." Are you here for a more personal community? Do you love endless masses of discussion? I'm sure there more questions to go along with this.
For me as well, I never really participated much in Reddit due to the sheer size of most discussions. I do enjoy being able to make a comment that isn't washed into the void instantly, but I don't know how much that would actually be affected my Threads. There's a chance that the majority of Threads folks won't even bat an eye at the rest of the Fediverse.
What I'm more worried about is the fact that this is a massive, for profit, information harvesting corporation is trying to squeeze themselves into a five times smaller system. Why not start their own thing? They hyped up the Metaverse before, why not build off that?
I conclude that they see a way to maximize profits by setting up here. Be it as innocent as that they hope for more traffic from the Fediverse or something like hoping to snuff out competitors, I don't trust it. On the same level as I don't trust them with my data.
Keep in mind that's just registered users from what I saw. Not active users. I believe in terms of active users it's about 2 million. Don't quote me, that was off memory of reading a different thread.
Are you Finnish by any chance?
I wouldn't count on 50/50 split. I imagine it would probably be closer to 90/10 if threads is seen as enjoyable.
A lazy search showed currently there are 6.5 million users in the Fediverse. A similar lazy search told that Threads reportedly had 30 million signups in the first 24 hours.
Even that makes me feel like we'd be in a hidden away corner of the Fediverse just based on sheer size.
Roland is binging on RimWorld due to: living in 2023
I'll start with a little bit of background. I moved to a different country just about two years ago and I have been slowly working on the language. I haven't had many close friends who share similar interests with me. I also don't care for the online games. Those reasons combined I haven't played d&d in just about those two years.
Someone suggested ChatGPT to me for an unrelated reason. I was impressed and then I was suggested to try a text adventure with it. And to put it lightly I was a little bit blown away. I'll admit, I even dropped a 20 to use the GPT-4. At this point, I think I have a mild addiction, as I've been spending a lot of my free time continuing our adventure.
But back to my original question. Have I just been this starved of role playing games that I think this is amazing? Or is it actually this good? What's your opinion on these AI when it comes to RPGs?
I could think of possible two reasons. First, the title could be seen as dramatic or clickbaity. Second, some people have blind faith in the Biden administration and this challenges that.
Personally I would support defederating from such a service. These are not merely a preference of content, but rather things that have actual harm to actual people.
Agreed. Could you further clarify you stance above then, about kbin being federated all other instances?
"federated" and "public to everyone by default" are two entirely different things.
Yeah, I'm pretty new here it probably shows. I'm aware it isn't exactly like that and I didn't know at the moment (and still don't) how to put my thoughts into words.
Keep in mind that legality of nsfw content varies wildly per region.
I can appreciate avoiding the law for what could be described as "socially just" reasons. I just think that opening with that may unintentionally include harmful subjects, such as the ones you have listed above.
Well, what if do want that? What should be of my sever that is set up in a country where said content was legal? I'm well aware I'm making more of a hypothetical statement here, but I believe that kinda stuff doesn't really have a place being blatantly public to everyone by default. I can empathize with free speech but I do believe there needs to be at least some sort of soft barriers.
Also, "avoiding legal takedowns" is kinda sus. I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it but it really isn't a strong opener when talking about porn.
And which legal system would we be using here?
Oh awesome! Nice to see you guys are already here. Hope to see the rest soon!
