  • He has a whole series on YouTube based on "The Backrooms" horror meme.

    They are quite good, imho.

  • Didn't he literally get signed with A24 to do a Backrooms feature film after all his YouTube short films?

  • Tintin's Tatas.

This is my kind of fan fiction yowza. I need... So much more of this. I'd especially love to see Captian Haddock initially confused and stressed but soon embracing it and it changes nothing in their relationship... Except that Haddock even more erroneously thinks he is some kind of father figure than usual.

  • Two adults way too interested in what a young man is doing with his genitals.

  • The thing about this shit is...

Microsoft, like Google, is now a user-data driven company and they have already made loss/profit ratio analysis on this long before they released the price increase. They're absolutely banking on people cancelling but making up the difference and then some from the people who stay.

For a thought experiment let's consider how many subscribers they were reported to have in Feburary: 34 million. Let's assume that everyone is paying for the highest tier to make the math easier. So current income would be 34 million user x $20 a month and thats $680 million a month. New income of 34 million users x $30 a month is $1.02 billion. The difference is $340 million a month. Let's divide that by $30 a month. That gets us about 11,333,333 users. So they can hemorrhage over 11 million users and still break even. To make sure, let's subtract 11 million users. That gives us 23 million users. 23 million users x $30 a month is $690 million a month, a cool $10 million a month above current profits.

For final context, 11 million users is roughly 32% of their entire subscriber count. They can afford to lose a third of the people subscribing and still make money.

The math doesn't bode well for us who vote with our wallets.

  • Look I know Bandcamp got a bad rap for being bought and sold a few times but they still have Bandcamp Fridays and that coupled with my own streaming server at home seems like the ticket to me.

  • The good old Imperial Boomerang.

I remember when Anduril dropped their first flashy video for their first drone. A friend of mine was working for a company doing online ad-work for Anduril and they showed the video to him and his coworkers. He made the joke "at least we know what the drones that will be chasing us down in a few years will look like" which went down like a brick with his coworkers and boss. I of course agreed with his assessment when he related the story to me.

  • I mean cartoon physics are totally in play here and this guy ain't got no fuckin arms his hands are just hanging in space so it seems reasonable (all things considered) that his reach is unreal.

  • Nope, actually I've been very successful at keeping my data intact. I have files going all the way back to my first desktop PC that I got when graduating high school. The oldest files I have are dated early 2000.

  • This has always been one of my favorites. I think Tom is right, his son is just a nincompoop.

  • more prose than poetry, but damn good.

  • I mean, I had completely forgotten about it entirely until you shared it and then the memory just blasted into my mind.

  • Immich is a more touchy beast because it includes a mobile app and the mobile app and the docker container need to generally be either the same version, or within a few versions of one another. There was a while where I forgot to update the server for a while and the mobile app kept being updated on my phone and stopped backing up photos because it could no longer communicate with the server.

I don't expose services to the outside world either, but I still enjoy keeping things up to date. Gives me something to do.

  • I remember this image too it's so fucking badass.

In fact, like I did with the UNIX is Magic poster, I may take this image and get it printed up on a nice large, glossy poster and mount it because fuck I have missed this. Thank you for sharing.

  • Run is definitely Ghostface & Jadakiss. It's got a killer remix by Ratatat which is my favorite version. It's also got one of my favorite lyrics of all time.

I can't go to jail my mother cookin' chicken for dinner! Damn!

  • I don't because I did a siterip in like 2006-2007ish. I never lost that video.

  • That sounds dope as hell.

  • Two things:

An article about a blockade of kayaks that were in an Eastern US port preventing warships from leaving the country to go to the war in Iraq. It was spearheaded by Quakers and was part of the impetus the Bush admin wanted to use to charge Quakers as terrorists. Quakers are one of the few religious groups that are by default conscientious objectors and cannot be drafted into the military due to the non-violence aspects of their religion. I have been able to find evidence that the Bush admin was toying with prosecuting Quakers, but not this specific event.

An article about musicians suing their record company for money made from suing individuals for file sharing. The record companies always argued that the people doing music piracy were stealing from the musicians, but the musicians had to sue their record company to see a penny of that money.

All together I have literally spent days and days over the years trying to find these. I have a fairly good memory and everything else I remember from that period of time I have been able to dig to find the source. These two elude me and it kills me.

  • In the docker folder with the docker-compose.yml of whatever docker container you want to upgrade:

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d

As others have said, for large groups of containers it's helpful to use Watchtower.

Immich in particular warns to backup your database before an upgrade. Also be on the lookout for breaking changes which require you to alter your docker-compose.yml file before an upgrade.

Oh and after upgrades to remove any dangling images which sometimes take up a lot of space:

    docker image prune

Also if you want services to be interoperable, learn about docker networking now not later and remember for static IPs you must create a user defined bridge.

  • For anyone else, yelling "They're eating dogs! I saw it on TV!" during a Presidential debate would have been career ending. Howard Dean's entire campaign was derailed by too loud of a triumphant yell.
