  • Counterpoint: A lot of people legitimately don't know how to find out shit on their own and their learning style is rooted in having teachers and tutors help them along to understanding. Needing someone to teach them how to find out shit on their own might legitimately be part of the path that they need help with. If you genuinely don't understand which sources are valuable or how to form the question into a search engine, doing it yourself may not be illuminating at all. Some people don't grow from "reading the fucking manual" because it's all too beyond their basic understanding for it to be valuable to them.

I think people take for granted that finding solutions on the internet is absolutely a learned skill.

  • If it's not that hard to find a source, then it's not that hard to provide a source. You're not doing other people's work for them by being kind enough to provide evidence for your assertions. They're less likely to hear what you have to say if you just brush them off and say "it's common sense" or "it's easy to find just search it yourself."

  • I think it's more likely that they don't follow orders simply because they recognize how fucking stupid their leadership is. They have been drilled to follow orders but they are also some of the most competent strategic minds there are. The buffoonery of Trump and Hegseth probably makes them feel like they are far above these fools, just simply because it's clear that their bosses are absolute morons. Further, they have to also be keenly aware that Hegseth has minimal actual military experience and Trump has none at all. Why would they follow orders from people they have no intellectual respect for and think are making grave tactical mistakes? They won't go on suicide missions just because an uneducated fuckwit told them to.

  • Who cares if other people think you look poor? The kind of people who would judge that kind of thing aren't worth having in your life anyway.

I've been struggling with depression a long time, too, and I am similarly somewhere I don't really want to be without a lot of folks to talk to on any kind of regular basis, so I sort of get it. It gets tiring being cooped up inside your own head. That's why I shitpost here on Lemmy a fair deal. It's something to pass the time and I've met a few genuinely kind-hearted and thoughtful people.

Filling the space with words is fine. Sometimes it's all we can do when we're filled to the brim with different ideas but no one to express them to and don't know where to start and it's all just spilling over and out because we simply can't contain it in any rational way anymore.

I enjoyed the new Alien: Earth series, it's good if you don't have super high expectations to start. I also appreciated the new season of The Amazing World of Gumball (now renamed The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball). Smiling Friends starts it's third season this Sunday. I also enjoy really bad movies that are so bad that they start being good again, but there haven't been many new ones of that variety lately.

I used to enjoy so many things, and now I just feel... listless a lot of the time. Unless I have a specific project I am working on, it feels like I can't truly find it in myself to enjoy television or films or games. I just sot of ingest them to pass the time. Sometimes I find myself crying at really stupid things just because I'm lonely. It all just feels sort of tedious and I'm not sure how to get past that. I just want to be able to let go and enjoy things again. It's hard to do when you spend most of your time alone and feel like you can't connect with the people around you when you aren't alone.

If you don't mind me asking what state did you end up in?

  • "AI generated." Maybe the voice. The hat and mustache are hastily slapped on what looks like an existing video, same with Schumer. The lip syncing is all off. But I guess it could maybe be AI generated. Seems way more crude than all that. I could probably do this in Kdenlive in about an hour with the same source video.

  • I guess my point is Google was shit long before this when those guys still ran the company. Hell, even Eric Schmidt was a former computer engineer.

Brin was even at Trump's inauguration along with current CEO Sundar Pinchai.

  • Smiling Friends, Season 3, October 5th 2025, Adult Swim, Comedy

  • I mean, fair, but we're talking about Alphabet/Google/Youtube which was founded and run by two computer scientists until very recently. To my knowledge both Sergei Brin and Larry Page continue to be controlling shareholders, and while Page stepped down in 2019, Brin came back in 2023 to contribute to Google's AI efforts.

  • Not even just the government. These are basically payoffs from companies like Google to curry favor.

I'm so sick of these companies that sold themselves as making the world a better place for two fucking decades immediately just turning tail and deciding actually just paying off the king for better treatment positioning is better than democracy. It's all so short sighted and absolutely fuck-stupid.

  • $22 million of the settlement will be contributed to the Trust for the National Mall to help pay for the construction of the White House State Ballroom.

I hate everything so fucking much right now. I'm just so fucking tired of it being so god damned stupid and shitty day after day.

  • And illiterate fucks use it to sound like they're not completely incompetent.

  • But he won't pay you back until Tuesday.

  • The hamburglar

  • We only get one ride in this rollercoaster and half of us want to make the ride living hell for the rest of us.

  • Also while Linux is not the same as UNIX, interacting with them is much more similar than, say, interacting with Windows. They use a lot of the same conventions and managing macOS can be a lot like managing Linux if you want it to be.

  • Not who you asked, but at bare minimum macOS continues to be certified UNIX.

  • It's all three simultaneously, like always.

Just like how January 6th was freedom loving patriots doing nothing wrong, but they were also antifa supersoldiers meant to make conservatives look bad, but they were also undercover FBI agents sent by the Democrats to make conservatives look bad.

  • They only morals or values they have are performative so they can use your own morals and values against you abusively.

They understand that other people have morals, ethics, and values and they leverage that as a weapon.
