These are the beginnings, yes; but how do you know for sure when you don’t know the end, and how do you know, or even surmise, the end? On the one hand, your enemies, the law, the regime, the Party, intimidate you. On the other, your colleagues pooh-pooh you as pessimistic or even neurotic. You are left with your close friends, who are, naturally, people who have always thought as you have.

"But your friends are fewer now. Some have drifted off somewhere or submerged themselves in their work. You no longer see as many as you did at meetings or gatherings. Informal groups become smaller; attendance drops off in little organizations, and the organizations themselves wither. Now, in small gatherings of your oldest friends, you feel that you are talking to yourselves, that you are isolated from the reality of things. This weakens your confidence still further and serves as a further deterrent to—to what? It is clearer all the time that, if you are going to do anything, you must make an occasion to do it, and then you are obviously a troublemaker. So you wait, and you wait.

"But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That’s the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions would have been sufficiently shocked—if, let us say, the gassing of the Jews in ’43 had come immediately after the ‘German Firm’ stickers on the windows of non-Jewish shops in ’33. But of course this isn’t the way it happens. In between come all the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B, why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D.

"And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush in upon you. The burden of self-deception has grown too heavy, and some minor incident, in my case my little boy, hardly more than a baby, saying ‘Jewish swine,’ collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose. The world you live in—your nation, your people—is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. IMO you need a lot more passion in your response, here and IRL to colleagues. These are obviously broken people around you. You smiling and nodding and coming here to quietly discuss away from them helps perpetuate their nonsense. Alternatively, if you had a gut reaction of "Dude, what the fuck are you talking about? How are you supporting your partner if you aren't taking that full leave? A newborn is 24/7 physical/emotional/mental gauntlet. We break these toxic cycles by speaking to our peers with confidence and putting idiots on the spot by holding a mirror up to their childish bullshit. Paternity leave is obviously vital if you're a decent parent and partner. If you have it available you take it and you focus on your family. Your mentioned group of coworkers sound like fucking degenerate scumbags stuck on a pointless treadmill. I feel sorry for their partners and their children.

As stated previously, doesn't seem you've ever worked an hourly job where management was actively working against that 29 hour threshold and sending people home early from scheduled shifts to make you avoid qualifying for expanded employees benefits.

Have you considered first joining a worker coop and experiencing it first hand before starting an org? This will do a few things at once:

1. Provide a real world view of the pros and cons
2. Likely help you build a network of like minded folks in that movement
3. If you like the way that org functions, ask the founder(s) of that org where they started and maybe ask them to mentor/advise your own effort?

OP, this is a false equivalency. Your position doesn't lead to progress, IMO. In a two party system, you select the lesser of two evils and spend as many days as possible holding that lesser evil to account. The simplicity of the false equivalency you strike is only meant to provide some relief for yourself, because the proper path I outline above is fucking exhausting, but unfortunately necessary. If/when you say "It all sucks" you just wash your hands, feel above and move on.

If you don't agree with a two party system (I don't know anyone that enjoys this shit) then focus this wasted energy on advocating wholeheartedly for a better way to vote that allows for the participation of third parties, ranked choice or something of that path of thought. If any of the current third parties were serious or anything beyond vanity projects and active spoiler campaigns on behalf of bad actors (Stein) then they would do the same - instead of showing up every 4 years, tainting democracy and then not doing SHIT for the interim.
