  • Hypocritical self interest I think. Many people who claim to be Christians don't understand or care about the teachings of Christ. Religion is used by these people more as a social boon than a means of philosophical/spiritual teachings.

Check out this comic strip 'the gospel of supply side Jesus' to understand the version of Christ they truly worship

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. I apologize for assuming your situation. I definitely understand everyone's life circumstances are different. I hope that you can still find ways to improve the quality of your life despite your daily challenges and perhaps find a few new hobbies to enjoy.

3000$ on a gaming PC is still a bit overkill IMO but if you truly feel that you want it in your heart of hearts go for it. You are the only one who knows what's best for you. I would heavily recommend you look into the Steam Deck first, like seriously consider it. Its the biggest technological innovation gaming PCs have made to date, again in my opinion.

If you can still use your hands to a normal capacity a way to make extra money would be consider learning to crochet, sew, or knit with hemp yarn and cloth. Hemp made items are making a huge comeback here in the US right now and people are willing to pay good $ for any quality hemp item. If you can manage to learn tailoring/clothes making you can make big bucks and you can do it from home through etsy.

  • Thanks for the info! What I meant by that was that traditional social media has always lived and died by popularity. People congregated to the most popular and thus most active sites and forms because they offered the most chance for interaction and someone Seeing what you write. There's a reason why when everyone used reddit Digg faded to obscurity or when MySpace was replaced by FB. There's probably some real life examples of this kind of mass congregation of social human beings leading to towns and whatever but that's besides the point.

Federation changes the game in a fundamental way. No longer is the biggest centralized site the 'best one' instead a bunch of small instances can have more or less the same reach, content, and interaction as a big one. It will take some time for people who grew up with the rise of social media like myself to mentally adapt to the idea.

  • Just wondering what about her having kids was a deal breaker for you?

  • I don't agree at all. Unless you are a smelly unwashed hobo with plastic bags for clothes or an absolute batshit insane sociopathic asshole thats a blarant menace to society nobody is going to care if you are a little ugly or not wearing a dress or if you have a shitty opinion about something. this mindset of yours will 100% turn you neurotic if you aren't already. Worrying at the level you are doing is simply not mentally healthy. May you find some inner peace my fellow human being.

  • There will eventually be more microorganisms tohat develop the ability to digest and break down microplastics. We've already found a few!

  • What you want is something you can't have. Stop worrying about things that don't immediately affect you and take a fucking chance in life. You will fail. You will make mistakes and judge yourself for it. People may judge you for things beyond your control like appearance and personality quirks. Fuck em. There's only a hand full of people who know and care for you well enough that their opinion matters, the rest of em just see a shadow on the wall. Most people don't care about you, they care about comparing themselves to their mental image of you. Who cares what they think. Do you have like severe anxiety of something because this is hardcore catastrophizing. 99% of your fears are baseless. You aren't the center of anyone else's world, nobody thinks about you that much. Sorry to burst your bubble but the sooner you realize this the sooner you can start to chill a little on the worrying.

  • My current favorites are Kruggsmash, civvie11, cheaprvliving

  • I think you may misunderstand. Let's say Lemmy.world goes down, you are still free to make a new account on any other Lemmy instance and still have the same username (hopefully). Smokeydope@Lemmy.world simply becomes smokeydope@lemm.ee or whatever instance you make a new account on. A lot of instances federate with most other instances so you will more or less get access to the same content. A good Lemmy client like Voyager/wefwef.app let's you hot swap between multiple accounts

Unfortunately there's no way to export/import sub's which I think should be a feature in the future. I'm not sure if you can access Lemmy.world content from another instance while it's down maybe someone else can chime in on that.

Here is a good instance list that shows number of users. Seeing it really helped me understand why Lemmy.world is down. It has 22k users. The next largest has 4k. Most others barely scrape hundreds.

We are guilty as aspecies of tending to choose the most popular option because it offers the most interaction. The enemy of federation is ourselves and cognitive bias. I am guilty as charged.

Here's a good list to find reddit sub replacements on fediverse too very helpful https://sub.rehab/

  • Tildes offer free website hosting along with many other services. As long as you can use a terminal you are golden. Check out tilde.team or tildeverse.org

  • I would never 3000, 3/10ths of your life savings according to you, for a PC. I would use that money on something that will improve the quality of your life or an asset to invest in. Buying land, starting my own business, spending a year traveling, a cheap van and some car camping stuff to put it in. Trust me modern video games aren't worth it. Buy a 500$ premade ibuypowerpc or a used ps4/Xbox/switch. Or a steam deck. Actually steam deck is your best bet.

Here's a mental excersise to help you out. Think of that 3000$. Now think of all the hours you had to work at your likely shitty wage job to build up that much money. Now ask yourself if an electronic computer box is worth trading all those hours of your life for. Its okay to spend big, but not on worthless entertainment you need to stare at a screen for. Life is much bigger than that and you won't live forever. Do yourself a favor and go experience something new. You've probably sat in front of a screen enough for a lifetime already

  • Dont you know the moment you stick a sword in your mouth it instantly gains the ability to cut through steel and even dudes made of diamonds if you try hard enough. ;-)

  • Once they realize they have a potential cash cow on their hands they do whatever they can to ensure that they can milk it as long as possible. S1 has no gaurentee of being a hit when its made so show producers put their all into crafting an enjoyable show. Once it becomes purely about extending its life as much as possible. Usually turning the story to crap in the process. I call this 'the Dexter effect"

  • Enduring other peoples mental emotional bullshit especially to keep a job. Feeling like I have no choices but to kill myself with work to survive. Mental maturity, having goals to work for, and learning to stand up for myself/not tolerate retarded whacky monkey bullshit from fellow human beings has done wonders for me. My young adult years were miserable, it got much better.
