I don't even know why I both with Reddit anymore
  • I mean more that it was going to get downvoted and OP might delete it themselves, I wasn't really talking about moderation in this particular community, which does a pretty good job from what I have seen.

  • I don't even know why I both with Reddit anymore
  • I think whats frustrating is that when the Great Migration was happening from Reddit, people telling Redditors to go to Lemmy were advertising it like a place that was more politically neutral than Reddit. So when people come over expecting that kind of community only to realize they were lied to, that makes it very frustrating.

I know thats what happened to me when I first learned about Lemmy, and it was not fun. I don't post political stuff, but I thought I wasn't going to keep seeing it everywhere. My feed is like a ghost town now though, because I just instantly ban communities or users I see posting that stuff. I don't care, I don't want to see it. Yall can talk about it without me.

  • Is 0.3 quarts extra too much oil in a car?
  • Its pretty unusual to have lube techs doing any diagnosis, but did she ask him if he likes chocolate milkshakes? Because That's exactly what you create when you mix water in engine oil. Just don't drink it.

  • Why?
  • Because George wrote a 3 act story which was too big and detailed to be crunched into a 1.5 hour film. So he chopped it up into 3 parts, and started with part 1.

When Lucas was first making Star Wars, it originally had "Episode IV" in the title before he removed it and released the original without a number. He was worried it wasn't going to do well financially.

  • Yeah, Lemmy is way more politically left than Reddit, this post isn't going to last very long here.

Like, the average Lemmy user is a Linux Obsessed Trans Communist that works in IT. Any user that is outside of that is most likely a minority on Lemmy. If you thought Lemmy was going to be less politically charged, I am sorry to say you won't be finding less politics here than on Reddit.

  • If you find yourself overfilling often, or if you are in the business and do heavy line work like I did (engine/transmission replacements and overhauls), just save yourself the time and get a fluid evacuator. If you overfill something you can pump a bit back out, they make them with pneumatic attachments or with a handpump that looks a bit like a bicycle tire air pump. Shove the little feed tube down the dipstick and pump whatever you need to back out.

    EDIT: Fluid Evacuator

  • Is 0.3 quarts extra too much oil in a car?
  • I mean, you don't HAVE to. But you can pour some oil into the filter to pre-fill it so the oil doesn't have to pump so long for the air you cycle out of the system, but the amount of time that happens for is so small it basically doesn't matter. If the oil filter is easy to access and faces upward (the solid part faces the floor and open part faces up) then I would do it, but I wouldn't do it in any other circumstance just to not have oil spilling and making a mess everywhere.

Youre not going to blow up the engine if you don't. But it gives some people better peace of mind.

  • Automechanic for 10 years here.

No. A little over the max fill line on the dipstick isnt going to hurt it. 1/8 of an inch overfilled or less is okay.

Usually if you don't prefill the oil filter and only add what they say then sometimes it can be a little under. Its not a big deal.

Way too much and you risk damaging piston rings or flooding, but you really have to fill it to the point its spilling from the dipstick tube.

  • HoloCure devs are cooking again
  • Interesting, but wouldn't this break the power economy of the game, especially for new players? Unless enemies also scale with character stats now, wouldn't this make the game too easy too quickly?

EDIT: Wait, I think these only drop once and aren't stackable. I thought at first they were like a regular stackable item but it appears that's not the case.

  • Is my girlfriend gaslighting me? (Edit: No, she is not gaslighting me, but may have some other issues.)
  • If I was actually kidnapped, would you kill the guy for me?

This is a pretty massive red flag right here, IMO. I wouldn't stick around any person that asks this question. If a person is kidnapped there are like a million other steps you can take that lead to the kidnapper rotting in jail and the victim's SO not being put in jail for murder.

  • Error:language_not_allowed

I am getting kinda sick of constantly not being able to post comments on seemingly random posts due to this error.

The instance is English, the post title is English, and my comment is in English. I have even logged into my instance website to change the language settings to have both "Undetermined" and "English" selected, and that still doesn't work. Not all posts have this problem, and not even posts in just one community or instance. Seems like the error is completely random.

I have to imagine this is an error specific to Connect for Lemmy, since I don't get the same error if I comment from my web browser. It seems to come from Connect for Lemmy not having an option to set the comment language when posting? Can that be corrected please?
