I did not know this exists! I will be using this at least weekly from now on. Thank you!
Got a non-spotify link? Love me some synthwave.
I agree on the sourcream & onion, taffel's furious is delicious, but Oikia Musta Melody Black Garlic is absolutely without competition for top spot.
I did in the end end up painting it a nice blue colour with a rust protect metallic paint. First layer looked awful, second layer looked quite nice already, but I'm gonna add a third one today. The paint can recommended 3 layers for proper rust proof, so that's what I'm going by.
Why would you remind me of this on a Monday morning. Haven't I suffered enough :(
In all seriousness, great episode, definitely still makes me sad every time even when I know it's coming. Unpopular opinion, I think Futurama was on par with the best Simpsons seasons, and way better than most Simpsons seasons.
I am sincerely apologetic of posting content that you found not to be dull enough. I will try to be better in the future. Tool restoration indeed is interesting, but I thought merely soaking a tool in deruster for days would be dull enough :(
I will keep this advice in mind the next time I need to derust something. Thank you very much. Bought a house from the 80's from a family of the previous owner, and they left a whole bunch of potentially good tools and other stuff in there.
A badly maintained, clogged, greasy electric chainsaw is on my list of things to open up, clean and lube up as well. Looking forward to that. As a mainly electronics guy, I only very recently started doing simple mechanical repairs. Opened up a fan that had a hard time turning, found out there were no bearings, just a rod acting as the iron core inside a DC motor. Disassembled, applied generous amounts of acetone to relevant parts, dried it up and greased it up. Worked like a charm afterwards, and didn't even lose any screws.
After some research, apparently my local auto store does sell a store brand rust removal gel. As a bonus, in my local language it's apparently called "Rust eater".
Hmm, looks like it's the US spelling for a gripping tool, whereas UK uses vice for both a personal failing or a bad habit, and a gripping tool. I'm most familiar with US spelling since I learned most of my English from video games and TV shows as wee lad.
I checked the biggest retailers in my neck of the woods, doesn't look like any of them sell it.
Not native English speaker, so I checked the dictionary first, and saw that vise is an accepted alternative spelling. Might not be that common apparently.
I did not want anyone to think I was derusting my personal failings.
I had no free buckets to hold the derusting solution in that the vise would fit comfortably, so I had to use a plastic box that was too wide. It would not submerge fully in the 1 Liter of derusting solution I bought, I had to soak one side for 24 hours and then the other side for 24 hours. It mostly cleared the rust. I'm considering painting it now, but I don't think I'm going to.
I'm mostly the kind of worldbuilder, who gets one cool but vague idea of something and then just randomly plug stuff into it until it makes sense. The latest was "What if there was a force that was rewriting reality while it's going on, and some people are immune to it for some reason?" and I ran with it. 150h later I have a full 12 scenario Call of Cthulhu campaign, but without Lovecraft stuff, all homebrew.
I am considering framing this comment. Never have I gotten such a compliment.
I noticed that some of the extension cords around the house constantly had empty sockets or their cord was coiled up since it was far too long. Some others had cords constantly being swapped, or the cord was too short and it was laying on the floor, getting dry humped by the robot vacuum.
I took inventory of all the extension cords in the house, mapped their expected required length and socket amounts and swapped them around until I had one that was too long, and one unused socket.
I also have one spare long 3-socket one, since there was one outlet that had one un-used socket, and there were only 2 required, so I could remove the 3-socket long cord extension cord completely.
I haven't been this happy since I bought a gutter cleaner tool with an extendable handle, so I don't need to climb on the roof or on a ladder to clean the gutters.
Yes. Thank you for noticing.
I mean, that's what makes it fun? Do you play games without rules too? In my mind, it's not worth much thought if there's no rules to it. Otherwise you could just say "I will go into the future where they've invented how to become a god and then come back with my godlike powers and do whatever I want."
it's the wishing-for-more-wishes kind of boring thing to do. Boundaries and restrictions breed creativity. That's what's fun for me.
Come on, can't ask this kind of question without giving us the rules.
Paradox free? Does the future change? Do I go as my current self or is age adjusted? Do I keep my current knowledge and memories and skills? Do I get to go back? Do I get multiple tries to get the optimal outcome?
So many variables with these kinds of hypotheticals, I can't give you any meaningful answer without general outlines of the rules. Can't play the game if I don't know the rules.
Hmm, yeah, I don't think that's very likely. Used it on the same TV for the entirety of it's lifecycle, and I believe I was using my PC monitor when I was troubleshooting. Very unlikely for two devices to cause the same issue. I'll keep it in mind either way, who knows.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna go for the full mainboard swap over that kind of soldering job. I'm not exactly new when it comes to soldering, but I don't think I can manage components of that scale with my shaky old man hands.
I did mean the towel trick as the last hail mary pass idea if all else fails, I've only done it once myself with my old 970 that started bluescreening all of a sudden. It did live for another 2 years after that, I would call it a success. Not typical getting that much, I'm aware.
I'll have a go with the PSU swap and let's see how it goes. Cheers for the advice!
Hello,
so my old PS4 (Gen 1, I think, not a huge console person, it's my Bloodborne machine and nothing else) has an issue: it turns off after about 5 minutes of it being on, and when it reboots, it goes to safe mode, does some scans, boots and it happens again within 5 minutes.
At first I thought it was a heating issue or the old HDD breaking down, so I cleaned it thoroughly and replaced HDD with a new SSD. Issue did not go away, so in the name of troubleshooting, I blew cold air into it while it was on, but the exact same thing happened again. Have also reinstalled the OS clean when I swapped to the SSD, didn't do any cloning shenanigans.
Currently my theory is either the main board or PSU that's broken. One other idea I had was that the thermal compound has gone bad on CPU/GPU, but haven't tried replacing that yet, it seemed unlikely to be the issue after I increased the cooling temporarily, should have at least seen an increase in the time it stayed on by my logic.
I have another PS4 I found for free on second hand market app, seller said the PSU broke and is missing, but main board should work fine.
I've been googling this every once in a while, but haven't found any clear answers. I also took some measurements from the connectors, and they seem to give correct voltages, but haven't checked current, and haven't done any long term measurement when it shuts down, so no clue if it's a voltage spike or undervoltage that causes this issue. My oscilloscope is also out of commision, so that complicates any long term measurements.
Does this kind of issue ring a bell for everyone? Any further troubleshooting tips? Should I just plug the PSU into the other PS4 without a PSU and see if the same thing happens? Doesn't 100% rule out the mainboard being the issue, since I have no idea if the mainboard is a known good component on the spare part one either...
I'd really like to finish my Bloodborne perfectionist run some day :)
