Everybody thinks about these events entirely wrong. There are sociological reasons people are violent or otherwise engaging in antisocial behaviour. Once we start giving people a place to live to actually set their lives up instead of just letting folks rot in the street much of this problem will mostly solve itself. Everyone seems to want to downplay the issue, but we don't need to do that because there's real solutions that don't involve state violence.
Either way this problem, even in its genuinely problematic current form and not something I will handwave away on its own, is not that significant compared to the personal and social harm of car centrism. You should still be more worried about dying in a car crash than some violent actor on public transit.
