  • Great stats! Does the tag 'fantastical' cover more than just fantasy novels?

It's interesting to see that a lot of books read were recent releases.

  • Yeah it seems to go in and out of the fabric in that way - almost like a drawstring bag around the hole. I'll give it a go :)

  • Oh perfect thank you, that's exactly what I needed. Are they using a ladder stitch in that video?

  • That is a very sweet idea!

  • I've just started a queer (somewhat furry-adjacent - don't hate me) fantasy novel called Wolf of Withervale by Joaquin Baldwin. Some fascinating world-building around a plot which has been fairly low stakes so far, but I'm hoping will build into something grander.

  • I've nearly done the top two lines - just need a book with a number in the title, and one from an independent author. But the book I'm currently reading and the one I'm planning to read next should cover those prompts!

Then I've got a scattering of completed prompts in the bottom half of the bingo card. Should hopefully be able to fill those out in the next few months.

It's encouraged me to read certain books and try out ones I hadn't considered before - thanks for setting this up!

  • I think Red Faction still does a better job of it, because it blends the destruction and physics into one system. i.e. buildings will topple the second they become unstable, rather than only becoming a physics object once they're fully separated.

  • Me next!

  • Hope you enjoy Dark Matter! It's probably my favourite from the books I've read so far this year. I might try out Recursion by the same author at some point!

  • Hmm have you read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel? That came to mind for something post-apocalyptic. I'd also recommend The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey.

If you want something engaging and don't mind which genre, two books I've read this year are Dark Matter by Blake Crouch (just finished and loved it) and Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane which are both very fast-paced and hard to put down!

(I assume when you say holiday fiction you just mean some fiction to read over the holidays; not something directly related to christmas/thanksgiving)

  • I don't think anyone would blame you after seeing those lovely goat stompers :3

  • There's something fun about being tied up and seeing that someone's about to go for your exposed sides and pits, and not being able to do anything about it ;3

  • That's why he's Scottish in the remake!

  • Aha! Finally a good use for the cosmic radiat-inator I've been working on!

  • The pacing is excellent! You think you've finally reached a calm point and then you get gut-punched with a completely unexpected event. It's been a while since I've found a book so hard to put down too. I keep saying I'll read 1 more page and before I know it I've read 10.

Definitely going to check out his other stuff. I've actually got a copy of Recursion downloaded to my ereader already.

  • I'm most of the way through Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. This book has gone in directions I was not expecting, and I've loved every minute of it. Should finish it in the next couple of days and it's definitely getting my recommendation.

  • Damn, so that's how it happens.
