  • Ugh I wanted one of these so fucking badly when I was a kid.

  • He’s begging for money from big oil, maybe possibly potentially related to this particular hot take.

  • Conflating fat people with bad people is pretty standard fare unfortunately.

I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life; I have a long history of being physically active while also being overweight. For example: I have a black belt in martial arts, which means I spent a decade of my life in a dojo three to five times a week exercising… while still fat. I don’t eat terribly either. My body just holds onto every fucking calorie.

But many many people have made shitty assumptions about me based entirely on my weight. The “personal responsibility” people are particularly obnoxious.

I was a kid in the 90s when every TV show had a stupid lazy fat guy as a cheap joke factory. That was super cool for my self esteem.

  • That would still be general help.

Specific help would be more like “this boss has [x] attack pattern that has a big punish window after it, watch out for [y] though because it has a quick follow up”.

Aside from that though, your general help is still a step up from “git good” because it’s not so damn condescending. If your entire “help” is a sarcastic zinger you’re probably not helping at all.

  • That’s not really in the spirit of what this self-fellating elephant is trying to say though.

It is incredibly frustrating and demoralizing to be struggling with a difficult section of a game and turn to the community for help, only to get a condescending “git good”.

Honestly the autofellating elephant is a fantastic meme for this because it doesn’t do anything for anyone else and serves only to make the commenter feel good.

  • It’s so frustratingly close to perfect too. It has a great screen, is more than powerful enough for all my dev work, it’s super portable, I can plug it into a monitor via alt mode, my Bluetooth keyboard works great on it…

It is like right there to being my favorite device, but the crappy mobile OS relegates it to sitting unused on my desk 85% of the time.

Really the only thing I use it for is CAD work via Shapr3D.

  • I would be way way more excited about this if I could actually use the iPad as a dev machine rather than just a big web browser.

Gimme a full terminal, let me run containers, open up installing full Mac apps, and I will buy one today to replace my aging 2017 MacBook Pro.

Of course, then their “product differentiation” vanishes and the shareholders make slightly less money…

  • Tell them I hate them.

  • So… does that store only sell Stihl tools? Or, do they just order their tools by brand rather than type? Because if so I need to find them and tell them how angry their store makes me.

  • Sure, we don’t have 70% tax rates like some countries do, but the 30% taxes we do pay don’t actually do anything to improve our lives.

I feel like it’s valid to complain about paying taxes into a system that doesn’t have any interest in making our lives better or longer.

Also, we still spend that extra 40% in ridiculous health insurance and copayments.

  • Honestly it sounds like you’re more interested in winning what you think is an argument than the substance of what I was saying.

A PS5 out of the box gives you a 4k picture at 60fps for many games using clever techniques that the average end user doesn’t care about in the slightest. That should be the benchmark.

  • MiniPCs are surprisingly good at this price point; good enough that I would say for most people’s average use case they would be satisfied.

I’d like to see them get more popular.

  • Well… you were responding to a post by me… which had no mention of “native” anything.

  • On the ps5: FF14, borderlands 3, Monster Hunter: World, Destiny 2, Metro Exodus, Far Cry 6, Resident Evil: Village, etc…

Most of them run dynamic 4k so there is periodic upscaling which is seamless in my experience.

  • I’ve tried this, and I think it’s worth providing a more powerful console if playing on the tv is your primary use case.

It works fine but it doesn’t really hold up to the 4k 60fps HDR experience that most people are getting used to from the main console makers.

  • I really blame Musecore for this, and all of the social engineering that big tech has been doing for years to make profiting off of selling user submitted content seem acceptable.

  • I miss the golden age of the late 90’s when tabs were easy to get and free.

  • Or just “request desktop website”.

  • I follow the Bluesky devs, I feel pretty confident that they are excited and taking their role in building a protocol and platform seriously.

I’ve yet to see a board of directors that wasn’t a joke anywhere though, so I guess I just assumed that this would happen everywhere.
