I wholeheartedly recommend reading the manga. While the anime certainly is outstanding and legendary on its own, it only features the beginning of the actual full story arc, that is featured in the manga. I would go as far as calling the anime an intro/teaser for the manga, which takes the story to a whole new scale. I still remember reading it in 1993 as a twelve year old and how it pulled me in, enjoy!
Interesting picture! Did you know that the motorcycle gang, which Kaneda leads at the beginning of AKIRA and of course also their rivals, the Clowns, were inspired by Bosozoku, which are a long established underground gang culture in Japan? They have a very unique way of "tuning" their motorbikes, are into the culture primarily for companionship and tuning, while crime is only a secondary thing some of them do on the side. Nonetheless, the Yakuza regularly recruits fresh muscle from Bosozoku gangs. Its a deep rabbit hole! :)
The sweet potato mash was already seasoned from the day before, salt ,sugar, lemon juice (not sure if lemon actually made it better), red chili pepper flakes and garlic. I just added two eggs and some flower plus some baking powder, so it would pancake properly. To achieve a uniform round shape and to make flipping easy, I used a set of two identical tiny pans.
Thank you! There was no recipe. All I had was some sweet potato mash from the day before and a craving for leafy greens.
The spinach curry was made by frying a large amount of onion, garlic and (mild) fresh green chili pepper in neutral oil. I also added several spices I had lying around, not sure anymore, certainly salt, cumin and black pepper, probably some Indian curry spice mix too. Reduced a can of coconut milk (10 min). Added spinach and reduced coconut milk to onion/garlic/pepper mix and boiled a little more. Used immersion blender to achieve a thick, creamy, sauce like texture, without using any binding agents.

Garnish is white and black sesame, don´t be lazy like me, roast your sesame! That way it will be a flavor component, not just a nice look.
I really need to re-read the entirety of The Incal, but am also a little bit scared, because then I’d have to physically and mentally restrain myself from posting a million and one extracts as I was enjoying it
The image you chose is from The New Dream, which is the first (and only) part of the unfinished series After The Incal. All lines in The New Dream are by Moebius, colors are by Beltran. If you look closely, you will notice one of the typical JODO MŒB "watermarks" in the upper right part of the image. After finishing The New Dream, Giraud left the project and it was therefore permanently shelved.
The "following" parts you refer to, are from a restart of the project, released eight years later. They are exclusively based on art by Ladrönn. These parts are their own separate series, which is called Final Incal. It starts with a 50 page retelling of After The Incal, to pick up the older unfinished project and use it as a starting point.
I still remember my excitement when holding The New Dream in my hands. The greatest series of them all, by the grand masters of epic sci-fi comics was finally getting continued!
However, I also remember the utter disappointment while and after reading it. It just does not work for me, as a continuation of The Incal saga, on any level. The narrative, the character development, even the art seems completely off. With the narrative for example, they lost me almost immediately (on page 3!) but I won´t spoiler ofc. Even Jodo himself disliked page 3 of the story so much that he changed it back later, in the retelling that is the intro of Final Incal. The only good aspect is the really well done coloring by Beltran, which says a lot when the two other people on the team were Jodo and Moeb...
After that disappointment, I felt so betrayed that I ignored "Final Incal" and did not even read it once (can you believe it?!)
Ah, I see you're a person of culture as well!
