This doesn't answer your question, but if you have an idea of what you want, or who you want to be, do those things. I'm closer to living the life I want to live because I asked myself "who do I want to be? And what does that person do?" and then I worked on doing those things. I have a ways to go, but I'm who I want to be.
I made it a personal rule that if I have a $5, it goes to whoever asks. I don't seek people out, but if it's asked, and I have that five dollar bill with me, it's theirs.

CBT can definitely feel that way but maybe if you view it as a way to explore the feelings and thoughts you have an examine if you really believe they're true, that might help? Like... Not everything you think is true. But it makes you feel some kinda way. So sometimes pulling it out and examining in and looking for a new direction to take some thoughts can be really helpful.
