  • It's art.

  • And sunsets, and parallax effect, and visible curvature, etc etc.

  • In my county all COVID vaccines and boosters are free to residents and in most regions around me I know there are programs to get them for free if you can't afford them. I'm sure it's not that way everywhere, though, but it's certainly worth calling around and asking about.

  • Malls didn't die overnight, you know. It's a downward spiral that takes many years when it starts.

  • It's chemicals all the way down!

  • Because they called a PA a Tannoy system...

  • It's not chemicals that protect from tetanus; it's the dead tetanus bacterium the vaccine contains that train the immune system to recognize the threat.

  • Kids.

  • I really want to know what a woke moralist is and how this poll was presented to kids such that this was a common selection.

  • Use https://www.sleeplikethedead.com/ to look up what works best for you. I went with latex pillows ten years ago and they're still going strong, though starting to smell like latex recently. Probably time to replace them ...

  • With over sixteen billion crabs involved, I'm sure the latency would be measured in years.

  • Which quote are you thinking of?

"Dresden? There is not such a place any longer." or maybe "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them."

  • The US EPA currently penalizes smaller cars thanks to a poorly thought out rule for fuel economy that scales by wheelbase size, making larger cars easier to meet requirements for. The EPA has made many embarrassingly backwards decisions, but this might be the worst.

  • It isn't terribly expensive to install what's called split unit air conditioners. They aren't a cheap stopgap solution like window units, but if sized properly for the space/insulation level they actually work very well.

Don't fall prey to the temptation of floor/portable AC units, though; they are terribly inefficient. Both window and split unit AC are significantly more efficient options and with split units you can even get heat pump models which will not only cool, but also heat your home more efficiently than any other heat source.

I'm a big proponent of the AC-plus-ceiling fan method, since you don't have to use the AC as much to feel quite comfortable.

  • I'm worried about how everyone thinks these items are food necessities. Clearly she desperately needed that fancy Febreeze, those air fresheners, and that cheese dip...

  • If someone is actually hungry or needing to feed children, there are substantially better options to steal, not to mention the social support options the police should be talking about. The random assortment of crap here looks more like a klepto's haul than something taken out of necessity.

  • Seriously; I feel like I learned the inkjet-cartridges-are-a-scam lesson when I was a kid and have been all about laser printers ever since. I don't understand how anyone is still falling for that.
