Roguelite atrategy
  • Wait what? Slay the Spire was on your list? Care to elaborate on that a little bit more?

All my Slay the Spire runs start with the exact same starter deck and I do not have extra health, damage, or other bonuses from my prior runs. I don't get your point.

FTL? What the heck. If I beat the flagship I don't get any bonuses for beating it for my next run.

I don't know if we understand 'roguelite where we get permanent bonuses for next round' in the same way. In Hades and Rogue Legacy your run will most likely be more stronger than your last run because of permanent upgrades. In FTL, Slay the Spire or Into the Breach you don't get those - you just expand the available starting gear / setups.

  • Slay the Spire on Steam Deck is such a joy
  • When you say perfected the formula I have to agree with you. It's such a joy to start with the same deck as the top 1% A20 only players and make your own journey. It just feels so right and well balanced.

  • Ooh. Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure about Deep Rock (multiplayer eh? Can't pause mid game, right?) but the Slice & Dice and Dicey Dungeons sound like something I'd be interested. Much appreciated.

  • I kinda get you. I too didn't like when I started always with the same starter deck but then it grew on me. When there is no game progression (think for Rogue Legacy etc. permanent upgrades) the progression is you and your game knowledge. Every single run starts the same but evolves to so different each and every time and you make better decisions over the run. I love it.

  • Slay the Spire on Steam Deck is such a joy
  • I started Brotato after some serious Vampire Survivors. I want to know what the heck is the genre of Brotato and VS and find more games like them.

Heard only positive about Balatro. I need to keep my addiction to one game at the time hehe. You know any (roguelitish?) games that are off the radar or more obscure? They seem to be my jam.

  • Slay the Spire on Steam Deck is such a joy

After Brotato addiction I found this gem of a game, right before the sequel announcement it seems. It's such a perfect game for the Deck at least for me - you have time to think, the controls just work and you can just put the game down and continue your run later.

Do yourself a favor and try it out even though your first runs will probably be a disaster. The core game mechanic is so tight and well done it's a pleasure to play loop after loop. 50 hours later I still want to do 'one more run'.

Exploring Reddit’s third-party app environment 7 months after the APIcalypse
  • I have an old iPad on my nightstand and I paid for Narwhal. I have no idea why I can still use it like the 'old times' but I'm grateful that I can still browse Reddit.

It's a husk of the former site I loved but the niche communities I care are still there. I wish for and 2nd and 3rd, 4th etc dramas on Reddit to get people here but sadly it's a numbers matter game.

  • Top 20 games played on Steam Deck in the January 2024, sorted by playtime.
  • Firewatch on your list was awesome. Really enjoyed it.

Never heard of the second last game.

V6 and Super meat boy are such a legendary games. Enjoy! For other platformers I'd suggest Owlboy, DuckTales, Hollow Knight, Celeste and Rogue legacies when you have time or haven't played them yet.

  • (TRUTH) New year and reflection time for past 6 months

    New year. Reflection time.

In the past half year (6 months) how much have you played with your Steamdeck?

You can compare it to your main PC/Mac or against your deck playtime of the first part of the year. Just comparison more or less. I want discussion going on.

I'm interested because I found myself to be a tiny bit deck fatigued and only in December have fun with Brotato. Otherwise I'm like 100h initial climax compared to 30h current one.

  • TW:Warhammer 1 has the added bonus that if you like TW:W games and in a few years buy the second Warhammer you can 'merge' the campaigns in to a bigger campaign called Mortal Empires. You can play all the factions (and DLCs you own) from both games in that campaign. Same applies to Warhammer 3

  • It's an owl and it's a bear so it must be an owlbear

Last project took me almost a year. This took less than three hours spread on four days. I like the eyes.

[Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - August 2023
  • I am somewhat of a patient gamer so I tend to focus on few years old games.

Currently playing Valkyria Chronicles which works pretty well on deck ( I hate how finicky accurate aiming is ). Non-interactive visual novel storytelling and turn based combat puzzles works really well for short periodic gaming moments.

Just finished Salt & Sanctuary and the remastered Grim Fandango. Both great on deck and good games overall

  • How much do you use your deck? Was it a good purchase?

I was on the edge buying the thing and told myself that if I use it 50 hours it's a reasonable purchase. Now I'm sporting closer to 200h within one year I could not be happier.

Did you have any (self made) goals when buying Steam Deck? Did you achieve those? Or did you buy it and now it's collecting dust? I'm curious

I painted my Eldar starter box in colour scheme by Midwinter Minis
  • Thanks mate. Yellow is such a hard colour to paint. If you zoom at the farseer helmet you can see I did some shading but overall the huge flat yellow helmets were so difficult that I just gave up. At least I now know not to paint large yellow panels in future.

  • I painted my Eldar starter box in colour scheme by Midwinter Minis

Made a lot of mistakes such as magnetizing all arms and choosing a bone white colour scheme for the weapons which shows tiny errors immeadiately. All in all I like how they look from far away. Just don't pick up any for inspection.

What are must-have games in the current Steam Sale?
  • I get most of my games from Humble Bundle now days but I grabbed:

Hades - great roguelite from steam deck

Subnautica below zero - subpart continuation of one of the best games this millennia

Technomancer - purely because mortismal gaming suggested it

    24 euros. Worth it.
