  • Some people hold family relationships above politics. If that's not for you, that's fine. But it's not a wild idea or unreasonable. It's just a different way of dealing with a political/family dynamic and what you find more important.

  • To be fair, my own granny died thinking I was still a card carrying Republican. Sometimes you don't tell Grandma you are a godless liberal. The old folks don't really need to know everything. Christmas gets kinda awkward if you do.

  • We have officially hit the point where radio waves are the devil. As a lora nerd and a ham operator, it's funny that the public is starting to catch on to all this.

It's like the microchips in the COVID vaccine thing. Why would bill gates and the ghost of Steve jobs try to sneak all this into your life when they already got paid 800 bucks for you to own a smartphone?!? You already did it!

This is just a part of normal infrastructure now and your Amazon echo is way more useful to them than whatever conspiracy theory is getting cooked up about this shit.

Hell most of it is horribly implemented and borderline useless even if you had the explicit intent to be evil with it. Ffs

  • I'm already getting blasted with ads for the heir apparent to replace Beto here in Texas. Some baby faced compromise that the Texas DNC has picked because of the fucking algorithm or something. Useless bastards all of them. All the Dems in deep red that I know are watching with waited breath for mamdami to win so we can use it as an actual example of what real policy ideals and 'fuck the DNC' effort can be. It's a thousand miles away but that's what we fucking need to show that these basic ass milquetoast candidates don't work. Ann Richards hasn't been relevant for thirty years but they keep trying the same goddamn thing. Fingers crossed they figure it out eventually.

  • You are probably right. But from personal experience with both of the people who admitted they were wrong, the huge dose of humble pie they ate to ever admit to me, that's takes real effort. One sees it in his pocketbook. He may forget. The other sees it after a solid dozen of his employees have been deported after ice raids. He's hurting in his pocketbook and in the personal relationships he has built with his employees.

To be fair I've told these people that all farmers should be voting dem across the board, quite militantly, for years now. But guns and "Jesus" made them think I was a madman. I know and understand who's blood and sweat our tiny world is built on,and finally they are starting to understand it. I hope it is a lesson that sticks. I'll be doing my damned best to make sure it does.

These are people that have fallen for propaganda. Decades of it. They aren't bad. They are just stupid for not paying attention. We can fix that. Call it out but please don't forget your empathy. I'm having a hard enough time as it is.

  • I'm a farmer. I warned my neighbors. I've had two hardcore trumpers walk up to me nowon two separate occasions now and tell me to my face "you were right"

I took no victory lap when either of them admitted it. The fact they admitted it was mind-blowing in and of itself. I didnt think they could ever be broken to admit it.

My response, "we've got three more years of this bullshit".

We're all in this together. But now you fucking understand.

  • After I set up my server and paid for the hardware, after my vpn, and after I paid for my Usenet subscription, and yeah, after I paid for lifetime Plex. I'm money ahead. Easily.

I have no Netflix, Hulu, apple, Amazon. All of it. ,that's a monthly sub for each. That's satellite tv money each month!

It's not a rug pull. I got my money's worth. And I'm late to the game. God forbid you are an early bird and have been living the high life for years and years! It's not a rug pull at all.

If the whole thing folded tomorrow, I'm still money ahead and a few steps away from adopting jellyfin. How the fuck is that a rug pull? It did what I wanted and has done it well. And when or if it fails, I move on. That's more resiliency than 99 percent of the other services I have used. And a better service and platform to boot!

    Rug pull? seriously?

  • Nature vs nurture but as a socioeconomic point of view. I haven't ever thought about it like that, but you may have an argument there. As a mid level millennial it's an interesting take. I'm gunna think about this for a little bit.

How do you think gen x faired as a generation in this thought process?

  • I'll honestly agree with that. Oklahoma's northern borders literally exist because of the north south break from the civil war.

And... Well Texas is Texas and does Texas things. Can't explain it.

If you look at population centers and distribution, and extrapolate past those to the full state line, it does make more sense. The more west you go, the more empty it gets. Most of Texas, people wise, is south and east in the state. Oklahoma is just a vestigial burial ground for our past sins. Gotta put it somewhere.

  • "How many people do you know from the great plains states?"

All of them. It's where I live. It's where I have lived the majority of my life. But I'm also well traveled and can assure you, there are cultural differences between the regions you are conflating.

Once again, you are wrong. Thank you.

  • That has never been the definition of the Midwest. If you want to go by the census definition, you are wrong.

If you approach if from a cultural or demographic standpoint, you are still wrong.

I would argue that the Midwest ends at the banks of the Mississippi river and maybe carries halfway into the western states. Past that it is a whole nother place.

Montana is mountain west or west. Always has been.
