What I love about this is all the republican, far right gun totting idiots that said that electing communist democrats would lead to the country breaking down and authoritarian government taking control of everything with military force .... and how right wing idiots would be the first to fight back with their guns.
The country is being taken control by a dictator .... and I've yet to see second amendment morons taking the lead on anything.
Libertarians .... they care about freedom, their own personal freedom above everyone else, even other Libertarians ... and they would rather watch the entire world burn down as long as no one applies any law, rule, regulation against them, no matter how scummy, racist, bigoted, violent or selfish they are.
And it's not just rural white country loving people either ... this same mentality is prevalent in minority communities as well.
As an Indigenous Canadian, I've always been aware of where I stand in society .... and no matter what anyone says or likes to believe ... I'm not that high up on the totem pole (no pun intended)
That's what pisses me off .... and all for what? So that we, the majority of people everywhere can enjoy a little of security and a livelihood where we don't have to worry about losing our home and ability to eat and clothe ourselves? And what are they protecting? Their obscene amounts of wealth that no individual person could enjoy in a lifetime!
That story of 20 year old Gustavo Gatica in 2019 is what got me a few years ago.
Every time I see a protest anywhere in the world and I see police and security dressed up for war against teenagers and young people with nothing but a scarf and no eye protection just gets me so anxious and upset.
Young people ... everyone ... should be allowed to protest what is not good for them and to fight for democratic rights. I support any young person fighting for what is right and equitable for everyone and I wish with all my heart that they stay safe and secure while doing so.
Many people are like that .... I'm like that ... and enjoy being able to watch a good show for 7, 8, 9 seasons but the majority of people everywhere are not like that.
Studios want to put the marketing into brand new shiny things they can have a monopoly on. If they can market the next big hit this year and they're the only ones showing it? They'll make millions or billions. But to market a popular show that went on air 20 years ago and still has good content would mean only a limited viewership and no monopoly on the rights to the show. All that work to just promote an already popular show that is past its prime .... studios will pass on that.
Apparently it's a studio tactic. They don't want good successful long running series any more. The problem for them is that if there is a popular series that lasts longer than three or four seasons, it gets hard to attract new followers and viewers in later seasons. When someone new discovers the show for the first time but then sees that there is three seasons of back story or content to watch, then they're less likely to want to watch. It gets worse when a new viewer sees that there is eight seasons of show to watch. For some that is a good thing but for most it isn't. On the other side are the fans of a show ... no matter how popular a show, the Fandom only grows smaller over time, so studios are not inclined to continue making content for a slowly evaporating fan base. And no matter how big we like to think the Trek community is, it's not big enough for the big corporate studios.
So in the end, the studios prefer to make a popular series for two or three seasons max and then kill it off no matter how popular it is because they know that the viewership degrades over time .... they don't care, it's just economics for them.
I saw this during the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York city
We're in northern Ontario in Canada and I was with my wife and her mother. My mother in law was a great lady, tiny, Irish Canadian completely and with a heart of gold. She had lived through the second world War where she lost her husband, her husband's brother, three other of her husband's brothers who were in the war and a long list of friends she saw leave school to take part in the war and some of them not come back, some completely psychologically destroyed and others just surviving life.
She was making chili that morning when we got up. I turned on the TV and couldn't believe what we were watching. It was like a movie. We watched live the first burning building and then soon after watched the second plane crash on live TV. It was surreal.
My mother in law came in and watched with us for a while. We were glued to the TV and waited for more .... all day! My mother in law got up after five minutes and went back to her chili.
We told her this was historic. You can't miss it.
She said she's already lived through wars, near wars, threatened nuclear war, end of the world predictions, fall of the Soviet Union and a whole bunch more.
She said she felt bad for everyone but we can't do anything right now.
They're not trying to kill people, they're trying to wound them. It's a lot more traumatic for the victim and the witnesses if they all see someone blinded by these shots. And they don't care if you go blind because they want to scare the shit out of everyone.
So wear safety glasses .... actual workplace csa approved safety glasses, the type that wrap around your eyes and protect all around. They're easy to find and cheap.
Amazing history too ..... Crosby and his band mates put the song together within days of the event and released it in two weeks and through a record label that gave them full control and freedom to do whatever they wanted.
In the 90s in an interview, Crosby explained that something like that wasn't possible anymore because record labels have a strangle hold on performers and would never allow this kind of music to be commercially produced and marketed. Performers can still make the music but it would never be allowed on a corporate label or corporate controlled air waves or even digitally controlled streaming services today.
