  • People who don't like anything are incredibly boring, in my humble opinion. Imagine putting all of this effort into an essay about why other people shouldn't like the things that they like. I think a lot of people mistake being a contrarion for being an intellectual.

  • Removing lawns to plant better things. Practical options for large yards?
  • Put down a layer of cardboard, and then cover that with wood chips. I've been chipping away at my lawn this way (get it? chipping away?) for about 3 years and am almost done. As an added bonus it improves the soil as well.

  • ‘Gollum’ Game Publisher Lays Off Developers and Cancels Next ‘Lord of the Rings’ Project
  • Stealth games are a popular genre and I personally find the character of Gollum to be quite compelling and I think it could have been done well, but it obviously wasn't.

I do a pretty accurate Gollum impression and have entertained friends with it at great length and sometimes to their annoyance so maybe I relate to the character more than is usual but I can't be the only one.

  • What are your favorite split-screen co-op PC games?
  • My wife and I tried D:OS and she got really bored really fast. I think the pacing of the first couple of chapters is really slow and there's a lot of reading and not a lot of action and she just lost interest really quickly. Too bad but I get it.

  • There are very few modern games I have enjoyed it are even looking forward to. Am I just getting old?
  • Totally normal with the current state of gaming. Hard to get excited about a game when in all likelihood it will release as a broken unplayable mess, missing promised features and rife with microtransactions. How many times can a person be disappointed before they learn to stop being excited in the first place? I know I have adopted a wait-and-see attitude about modern AAA games.

I will say I'm cautiously optimistic about the new Armored Core game, because Fromsoft is good people and the gameplay trailers I have seen look absolutely sick

  • Clover's babies are just starting to hatch!
  • She's a Muscovy duck! They're a different species from the mallard derived breeds that you typically see and are originally from South America. They don't quack, but instead the females make a trilling coo and the males have a sort of breathy laugh. They are extremely quiet, friendly, curious, and calm birds and make perfect backyard poultry

  • Kamala Harris speaks in Denver, urging students to take action on climate change
  • Ah yes, it is the students' responsibility to take action on climate change, not the vice president of the most powerful nation in the world.

We could solve the problem yesterday if they had the will to do it but they just don't.

  • Blueberries growing this year
  • Two are Patriot variety, and they have both grown quite tall, about 4 feet. The other two are unknown variety because they were actually dug out of someone's yard and given to us as a gift. Those have grown more bushy I'd say about 3 feet diameter

  • White currants from my garden

I planted a white currant bush last year and this year it gave me a couple of handfuls. They have a fresh taste like a green grape but a bit more tart. I'm in the process of drying them now so I can use them to make some currant scones
