Lemmy.world (and some others) were hacked
  • Liftoff hasn't acknowledged me as logged in when voting or commenting for the last day, despite showing it on my user tab. I'm assuming that's related to the recent hack, but I've tried clearing the cash, logging in and out, and restarting the app with no success.

  • 2024 Formula 1 Season Calendar Revealed!
  • I'm not talking about advertising money, I'm talking about them contributing to the fees paid to the FIA to host the actual Grand Prix. The organizers lost money on that race most years. It ran, and 2019 was no exception.

My 2017 Africa Twin in the Parque Nacional Huascaran in Peru, 2019 Tuono V4 Factory on a random Tennessee back road, and 2012 Daytona 675R in its home environment at NCM Motorsports Park. Pretty big fan of my little collection.

    lemmy.world Motorcycle Track Days - Lemmy.world

A community for motorcycle track day enthusiasts, from Novice to Advanced. Motorcycle Track Days - Lemmy.world

Hello fellow motorcycle fanatics! I wanted to make a plug for /c/trackdays, a community I formed for anyone interested in getting into track riding and/or club racing around the country. The subreddit of the same name has been a great resource, and I'm hoping to build a worthy counterpart for anyone that's migrated over to Lemmy. I've compiled a pretty extensive list of track day organizations, racing schools, and sanctioning bodies for club racing, and I hope it'll make a worthy addition to the motorcycle-focused communities on here!

A group ride to The Tail of the Dragon in early June, 2023
  • 28 is amazing, and usually less populated than the Dragon. The Cherohala Skyway is also stunning, and makes an excellent loop with 129 and a couple of other great roads. Hard to go wrong out there.

I rode the BRP+Skyline Drive from Cherokee to DC at the beginning of May, and other than getting caught in a freak snowstorm my second day, it was one of my favorite rides I've ever done. It's easy to get into a kind of zen flow when you're the only one on a road like that.

  • GM executive expects FIA decision soon on Andretti Cadillac's Formula One bid
  • Who on the grid does? Ferrari, Alpine, Honda, and Mercedes build engines, outside of that the rest of the teams are building tightly regulated cars. Andretti is one of the biggest names in American motorsport, they're attempting to bring in a new engine supplier and one of the biggest car companies in the world, and they have the money to do it. What more can be reasonably asked of them?

  • [@tgruener] Aston Martin made sure their drivers wouldn't get any penalties before protesting. Also confirmation gravel traps will be fitted outside T9 and T10 at Red Bull Ring with avail from MotoGP.
  • Gravel traps can catch parts of a bike or rider and cause them to roll/tumble, which is almost guaranteed to cause more serious injuries than sliding across tarmac. Just as a recent example, Pol Espargaro suffered serious injuries at Portimão earlier this year after sliding into a gravel trap and getting hit by his own bike.

  • 1985 VF500F that I no longer have. I miss it, but...
  • I've owned four VFRs in my life, the last of which was a 2007 Anniversary edition that I bought in 2015 and sold to one of my best friends to fund a trip. He's made a standing offer to sell it back to me and I'm having a very hard time not doing it. I still maintain the VFR is one of the best all-around street bikes ever produced, especially if you sort the suspension.

  • Hard to have a bad time out there as long as you stay upright. I live about three hours away and if I want to kill a weekend, I'll ride out, camp at the motorcycle resort, and spend it getting lost on the back roads.

  • Conservatives go to red states and liberals go to blue as the country grows more polarized
  • I was seriously considering a move from Nashville to Minneapolis last year, but after a lot of soul searching about it, I realized that the length of winter there would mean giving up most of my favorite hobbies, especially motorcycles, for a substantial portion of the year, and I'm not willing to do that.

  • Reddit's API protest just got even more NSFW
  • So far wefwef has been my favorite. It's a web app and has to be downloaded through Safari or Chrome, but it was made by the developer of Apollo and is very similar the overall experience of using that. Liftoff is a close second.
