Historian who predicted 9 of the last 10 election results says Democrats shouldn't drop Joe Biden
  • Hi! Apologies. Other people were naming other potential candidates without further justification so I didn't think I need to.

Pete is young, intelligent and very reasonable. Back when he was running in 2020 and when I was doing my own research I found that our political views aligned the most. He is young and white so he has that going for him if looking for general appeal lol

I currently have Newsom as governor and while he did a great job with the pandemic and healthcare policy in general (I was on calls with his team and many other hospital systems), I hate how he protects corporate donors like PGE. Overall though he signs many good bills into law. I'm just concerned he can be bought and he's more of a corporate ally than he gives off.

With the media coverage I didn't state whether or not it would be successful. I'm not even sure if we should change at this point because there's a lot that goes into that transition (voters need time to know candidates, campaign ads and efforts likely planned out until November, etc). All I said is they can likely pick anyone and there would be significant media coverage. DNC nominates X! Then many articles around who is X! Again, I'm voting any way to defeat Trump.

  • Would love Pete Buttigieg over Newsom but honestly will take anyone that can beat Trump

Anyone they pick from now will get name recognition no matter who they are from media presence alone. Changing candidates at this stage will be significant news.

  • Are you still living with your parents/family?
  • Concur. Hate the nuclear family idea. And no worries about still living with your family OP. Most people do and if it works, it works. I live with my husband and moved out at 24 but have many friends that havent and we are in our 30s now. Hope you do find a job sometime though! I believe for most people jobs provide more sense of security and more financial wiggle room.

  • The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Its a thick boy and will take me some time. Hoping to mark of the "Water, Water, Everywhere" square for it.

Tom Lake by Ann Pratchett has been a very leisurely listen. Unsure if there's any squares to use for it but I like it either way so far. Simple, so far, pleasant telling of a former actresses life to her three kids.

  • Despite surging demand for long-term care, providers struggle to find workers
  • I'm not familiar with other skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) outside of California but I believe if the skilled nursing facilities in California are struggling to survive, there is a possibility that others would as well with this requirement. Already operating margins have been shown to be at break even or negative before Biden's initiatives [1], [2][3, note to add, i can count on my fingers, 10 yrs in HC, how many ppl pay privately for SNF].

The whole sector is honestly a mess unfortunately and I have so much to say. I will keep it simple though. I do not think the prices will rise or will be passed onto consumers like the above poster suggests because SNFs cannot control Medicare or MediCal reimbursement/payments (which is the bulk of their clientele). I think they will simply close down, especially with Bidens requirement, leaving less options for any patients needing short term care (iv abx before going home, wound care, rehab) and almost NO options for patients that don't have money to live anywhere else. Already, sometimes I have to send long term pts 200+ miles because I can't find any SNF beds closer. There has been a nursing shortage in SNF for so long, and Bidens requirement does not address any issues currently with the SNFs. And just adds a HUGE problem, likely to cause many SNFs to close down. That's why I am against the nurse requirement.

  • If I have time to sit up and read, I have been reading The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Historical fiction about a woman in India. Otherwise, I just got my Kobo Libra Colour and have been reading The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett as I go to sleep. Fantasy.

For my commutes to work, I have been listening to Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson. I have been reading heavy material from depressing articles to more serious books and needed a break from all of that. Its about a blogger whose cognition is so vastly different from anyone elses and its very humorous how her brain works.

  • Romance books with more relatable male protagonists
  • I haven't read a lot of romance novels honestly but I read 11/22/63 last year by Stephen King. At its core its a historical fiction (very long read, I did audiobook) but there's a love story interwoven and I found it very romanic. The main protagonist Jake seems very average to me and his views on life and the world were very relatable. Just an English teacher trying to make a difference in the world.

  • Helldivers 2 CEO: Well that's depressing
  • I def think Arrowhead had some shared responsibility for it. Going into a contract with Sony, they must have known the PSN account was a requirement but no one on either side mentioned it until it was going to be implemented.

If PSN was required from beginning, it should have been enforced/limited to specific countries. If it had "technical issues", maybe they should have fixed it much sooner than 6 months.
