Is it possible to stay anonymous when joining a private tracker community?
  • Seems like a honeypot to me, telling people to use something other than their home's connection. Kind of difficult to prove. Really seems like they want that information specifically for the purpose of going after those people, since you know, ISP subscriber ID, can't get that if they use the Library, a friend or acquaintance's house, or an Inn or AirBnB, not saying you couldn't track someone down with those if you wanted to, but it's not as convenient.

  • MSFT Rule
  • Hopefully their stock goes down even more, anything that makes the shareholders suffer is a good thing.

  • Vote manipulation rule (in more ways than one)
  • Lemmy isn't impervious to vote manipulation either unfortunately, I encountered someone in a thread earlier who was getting botted, one downvote for every upvote in lock-step with each other. Good news is that Lemmy admins will squish them if you report sussy voting behavior.

  • Meta: please don't delete your posts if you later thought that the idea has "failed"
  • Yeah that's why it would be good to make deleted threads still show up for all users, they would be unlisted but the comments would all still be there.

It used to be that this would also happen with comments both deleted and removed but this functionality was changed and comments which are deleted or removed no longer error like that.

  • Meta: please don't delete your posts if you later thought that the idea has "failed"
  • That's mainly just the way the backend and UI handles the post, the thread and replies are still there, admins and mods can still see it, it just errors for users. We could potentially modify the Lemmy software (or it could be changed in an update) to allow viewing the deleted thread with the post saying *Deleted by User* just like it does with comments.

  • Rule
  • Agreed, especially when they betray you and your trust. Had that happen to me before 😭

  • Vote manipulation rule (in more ways than one)
  • It's very hard for them to do so, they'll usually do it for people with multiple accounts in the same browser doing it, but they don't bother with any of the bigger methods. Doesn't make them look as good and powerful to normies.

  • Vote manipulation rule (in more ways than one)
  • That's how it's supposed to be, but anyone actually aware of how Reddit does things knows that they're actually laughably bad at enforcing their rules. They only do it to look good and convince normies that it's hard and that they'll get caught (I don't know why, seems like preaching to the choir, since normies aren't interested in this shit but whatever).

  • Gamer Rule
  • Yeah, I do have friends who I play online games with. Though I still don't speak because I'm still very self-conscientious about my voice, and I know it's stupid, but it's just how I feel. The only people I do talk with in Voice chat or phone calls are the friends I know in real life.

  • Vote manipulation rule (in more ways than one)

Right wingers encouraging others to buy upvotes and downvotes on Reddit to push right-wing politics and suppress their opposition.

    Gamer Rule
  • That is way too expensive for a product like this, that also might not work for its intended use (if their nose isn't fully covered like in the picture, I'd expect the screaming to leak out quite a bit. Might've worked for my idea of using it for call privacy (speaking softly) but still that's way too much for something that'll probably only be useful for that niche use-case.

  • Gamer Rule
  • I don't speak on Voice chat though, mainly because many gamers online are racist (and sexist) pigs. Back in the day I did used to use TeamSpeak to talk to others in games and they both be racist toward me, and make fun of my voice saying I sound like a girl.

So, text only from now on, if reading is too hard especially with spelling mstakes if I'm doing it quickly in game, fuck them.

I do think this could have some use for me though, particularly with private calls which I'd prefer other people to not hear the other side of, though it's still very hard to justify it since it just looks way too silly.

  • Gamer Rule
  • Why do we want to save these people from bans? They need to be removed from the community, if from society altogether. Better for them to say it out loud than to think it quietly, otherwise these people will quietly ruin our lives one step at a time and we won't realize it as they're doing it.

  • Mushies Rule
  • Yeah I heard amazon had to take down a lot of them.

  • Mushies Rule
  • I saw a good amount of the AI gen ones when trying to look up these already, it's really bad. Probably only going to get worse in the future.

  • Mushies Rule
  • I bet they are insanely poisonous, but maybe they aren't. I'm not confident enough in my identification to say if they are for sure.

  • Unix rule
  • You could also just use a VGA or DVI to HDMI on a compatible card which supports DOS, you'll have to pump in external sound but that's already the case on Most Dos machines who's soundcard is external, and since DOS and its software library doesn't exactly support modern soundcard standards.

  • Enable Instance on LemmyFederate
  • I see, that makes sense. It does kind of suck though since it means that it's harder to get communities here seeded elsewhere so they can be discovered and gain users. Getting communities here isn't as big a deal , it's getting your communities pushed out there that's the issue.

Maybe someone could talk to the maintainers about including a mode that doesn't push external communities to our instance but still allows for other instances to subscribe to communities on our instance.

  • Court Orders Google to “Uninstall” Pirate IPTV App Sideloaded on Android Devices
  • Sorry let me clarify, when I say unlicensed I meant that they are using Google Play services without Google's permission or certification.

  • Court Orders Google to “Uninstall” Pirate IPTV App Sideloaded on Android Devices
  • Even that is pretty limited since it can be disabled, and even if they changed it to not be officially able to be disabled by users, ROM makers can still disable it in various ways, and since their problem is TV boxes, including those shady unlicensed ones, I'm betting those would simply disable the feature via their unlicensed Android Roms.

Edit: Clarification, when I said unlicensed I didn't mean Android itself, I mostly meant their use of Google play store and services which Google does require permission to use legitimately in your own Android product. Obviously it's super easy to get them without google's permission, it just won't be licensed by them though if a company does that. And many TV boxes you buy cheap these days do indeed do that.

  • The rule of the anti-woke grift
  • I've also seen people collectively losing their shit in the Terraria Steam forums for the past few weeks because 1.4.5 will remove the ♂ and ♀ symbols from the character creator. Many of the people who are angry are claiming that Terraria "went woke" and it's "gonna go broke". It's only fairly recently started to die down, but I imagine it'll pick back up again when the update drops.

Yeah these people really are inecredibly delusional if they think games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Terraria are going broke.

  • Enable Instance on LemmyFederate

Just wondering if it would be possible to enable the instance on LemmyFederate since then we could more easily distribute communities from here to elsewhere since as it is it's kind of hard to grow communities or even just have them be discoverable on other instances.

Uh for those who don't know LemmyFederate is a service that allows communities to be distributed to other instances via a bot that subscribes to them, then unsubscribes once a real user joins. It's helpful because communities don't become visible on remote servers until someone from that server searches and subscribes to it. Due to a limitation of how the Activitypub system works.

Any way to pirate the Steam Deck keyboard themes

I was looking to try and get the Steam Deck's keyboard themes, the official ones but without getting them via the official methods. The main reason is that when getting them through the official methods they don't work offline but CSSloader themes do work offline and have no DRM.

    Minecraft Piracy Resources

This post contains a list of resources for people wishing to play Minecraft for free, including launchers, bypasses for launcher account checks, and skin/auth services.

    Launchers

This section focuses on custom launchers.

    PollyMC

PollyMC is a fork of the popular launcher known as PrismLauncher, it has been modified to remove the Premium account requirement, and also has had other features re-added like FTB modpack support and curseforge bypass which many other launchers chose to remove. In addition PollyMC also comes with support for Alternative Auth Services.

The launcher is available on Windows, MacOS, and Linux, and even has flatpak available (not available in flathub).

    PollyMC Github

    Legacy Launcher

Legacy Launcher, formerly known as TLauncher is a Minecraft Launcher with support for the Ely.by auth server as well as robust modding support. In Legacy launcher you need to download mods and modpacks manually as it doesn't have download support built-in to the client like PollyMC.

To download you will need to use a VPN to another country as the Admins of the site disabled downloads to certain countries. You could also use the russian Mirror version of the site.

    Official Site

    Russian Mirror

For the Flathub version you will have to run this command to bypass Microsoft account requirements:\ flatpak --user override ch.tlaun.TL --env=TL_BOOTSTRAP_OPTIONS=-Doomsday

    Prism/Poly/MultiMC Bypass

If you really want to use the Original Prism or MultiMC Launcher versions these have Microsoft account requirements in them, however it is possible to bypass this requirement. A guide by the name of PrismLauncher bypass highlights how to do this, both automatically via commands or manually by copying the file. The accounts.json file also works on MultiMC and other similar forks.

    Warning about Malicious Launchers

There are certain launchers out there such as TLauncher which are malicious and include spyware in them. Such Launchers are often named after or similarly to well known reputable launchers. It's important to only download reputable launchers from official sources.

    Alternate Auth/Skin servers

This next section focuses on alternate auth servers, these are a few picked from the list of auth servers on PollyMC's github.

    Ely.by

Ely.by is one of the more popular Auth servers, it includes its own Skins system, which is proxied with the official one allowing both skin systems to be active together. In addition Ely.by can also be installed on servers which allows for it to be used as authorization in place of the official servers.

    Blessing Skin Server

Blessing skin server is another popular authorization server, as the name implies this one's primary focus is on Minecraft skins, it supports both regular and also HD skins. It does have auth support as well but its auth support isn't as well documented as ely\.by.

LittleSkin (alt Instance of Blessing Skin)

A secondary instance of Blessing Skin with basically the same features, just on a different website.

    Non-Premium Servers

While the majority of Minecraft servers these days are premium servers there are still plenty of servers which do not require premium account login.

You can find these servers on various lists such as:

Mos of these servers are public Minigames servers, if you want more survival oriented or building servers these are harder to find. People can feel free to share servers they know of here.

Also there are basically no free servers at all which use alternate auth servers like ely.by and BlessingSkin, Hopefully this can change in the future, if you know of any such servers feel free to share them in this community.
