I'm happy his kids will not be raised by a hate-monger like Charlie Kirk. I'm sad that it took his death to accomplish that. And I'm sad that it probably won't make a single iota of a difference in their upbringing.
Civility had been in a downward trend since public discourse became mostly anonymized. When there are no real world consequences it's easy to be rude and dismissive. Then, once people saw that the rudest and most dismissive tactics were the most popular online, the same behavior spread offline.

They will stay in power through manufactured crises. COVID vaccines first, followed by flu, then MMR etc. Dying people, dying kids, state of emergency, martial law. "Postponed" elections. Occupation of US cities to discourage dissent.
Meaningless wars with Central/South American countries (because Middle Eastern wars are unpopular), sold as wars against drug cartels. War refugees to destabilize Mexico, followed by "peacekeeping" forces over the border.

If I said Israel is an apartheid state engaged in genocide, the Feds would try to deport me.
If I said Obama was born in Kenya, I would be engaging.
If I said Nancy Pelosi's husband was having gay sex before his partner attacked him with a hammer, I would be respected.
If I said dead schoolchildren are just the price we pay to live in a free society, I would be celebrated.
