Do any non-corpos actually like AI slop?
  • I think it’s a fun toy that is being misused and forced into a lot of things it isn’t ready for.

I’m doing a lot with AI but it’s pretty much slop. I use self hosted stable diffusion, Ollama, and whisper for a discord bot, code help, writing assistance, and I pay elevenlabs for TTS so I can talk to it. It’s been pretty useful. It’s all running on an old computer with a 3060. Voice chat is a little slow and has its own problems but it’s all been fun to learn.

  • If you're in the US, how are you preparing for the election and dealing with the stress?
  • I figured out who to vote for and mostly lost faith in the American people. I deeply understand that the system is broken but electing a fascist is not the way to fix it unless you want it completely broken. Honestly pretty depressed about the whole thing because prospects are grim and I have little hope for the future after the past 10 years.

  • Character.ai Faces Lawsuit After Teen’s Suicide
  • Yeah, not cut and dry at all. OPs article didn’t have the chat logs. Looks like it told him not to commit but did demand loyalty. He changed his wording from “I want a painless death” to “I want to come home to you” to get it to say what he wanted.

  • It sounds like you are a bit too personally invested in politics. It’s good to be involved but when you start lumping everything into political leanings you should probably step back a little.

  • Character.ai Faces Lawsuit After Teen’s Suicide
  • I don’t think this is the fault of the AI yet. Unless the chat logs are released and it literally tries to get him to commit. What it sounds like is a kid who needed someone to talk to and didn’t get it from those around him.

That said, it would be good if cAI monitored for suicidal ideation though. Most of these AI companies are pretty hands off with their AI and what is said.

  • Any recommendations for making a free or low-cost wiki for personal projects? (NOT Fandom though)
  • I’ve been thinking about this as well for TTRPG notes and info for myself and others. I have a few raspberry pi laying around and it should be pretty easy to get something like Mediawiki (the same thing Wikipedia uses)some other wiki engine running on one.

  • Why Google is appealing the U.S. Epic Games verdict
  • They want to keep their highly lucrative walled garden, simple as. They will come up with as many bullshit answers as they can to make it seem like they are the only ones who can be trusted to have an App Store.

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene is now adding lasers to her Hurricane Helene conspiracy
  • That’s why she says “they” instead of who she really means. She can always claim to not be a part of “them” and the label can be applied to any group people want. Keeps the hate train running on schedule.

  • How often do you change bedding and bath towels?
  • And I’m pretty clean each time too so it’s not exactly collecting a ton of dirty. If it’s used for something other than me fresh out of the shower then it goes straight in the wash. Otherwise it gets washed when I do laundry each week.

  • WinampDesktop/winamp - Licence violates github TOS · Issue #6
  • I feel like this repo is bait. The license is bad and violates the TOS but if they can convince a judge that it’s legally binding then they already have over a hundred targets who have forked it. They really messed up by including the shoutcast source and some Dolby code, although the Dolby stuff is questionable.

  • REMOVED
  • My dad had a bunch of these when I was a kid. Super durable and great as back scratchers or just a stick to play with. I bought a few after finding them online and love having them.
