  • Hobbies and meetups. It doesn't need to be DND, but little hobby groups always start around the hobby, which then grow into little friend groups around that hobby.

My last DND group was started by me literally texting people I saw on the lfg sheet at the local game store. It takes work to find a group, or start your own, but it's worth the effort to find a group of people to hang out with regularly.

Also, big gatherings are not a bad way to socialise. They're just not a good way to socialise for me. Personal experience varies.

  • Oh! One more. If you're struggling to sleep, and waffle house at midnight isn't in the cards, put your body in timeout for a bit. Move out from the bed to a cold floor (like the kitchen) and lay on that for a while. Then, once your body knows that it could always be worse, head back to bed.

This assumes that the usual tricks, like good sleep hygeine such as avoiding screens before bed, aren't available. You're better off going with what science knows to work when you can, such as morning excersize, over a last minute tip like this.

  • So for those of you with diagnosed / actual issues that can't be fixed with a couple habit changes, this won't really work. But for everyone else, I've found these things to actually be super helpful when managing sleep and food.

To fix the nap issue, you gotta combine it with caffeine. (Quickly) drink some form of energy drink, and then take your nap. The caffeine will wake you up and you'll feel a lot more energic about it afterwards.

To reset a sleep schedule (ie, you've been going to bed at 2am for the past couple days and now you struggle to get to bed on time for work) skip dinner and go to bed early. The lack of food and going to bed early is like a little soft reset to your sleep schedule. It'll be a lot easier to get to sleep on time the next day after this.

Snacking throughout the day is the easiest way to gain weight. Lots of little food means you continually feel hungry and that your caloric intake is a lot higher than if you just had two or three proper meals. This is great if you're trying to gain weight, but terrible for maintaining you current weight or trying to lose weight. If you're trying to lose weight, you'll likely be feeling hungry a lot and this isn't really fixable, however, maintaining your current weight shouldn't leave you feeling hungry all the time. I'm not a food person, at all, but picking better food options that don't leave you feeling hungry before your next meal time is the better choice compared to adding a small snack to try to fix hunger.

I'm also not a normal person with regards to people / extroverted stuff, but I've found that big gatherings of people, like a bar or house party, are incredibly shitty ways to manage the need to socialise. A small group of actual friends is a much better way of helping with loneliness. I've been way happier with a small DND group meetup every week or so, as opposed to a meetup group every couple months. You gotta put in the work to find a regular group of friends, but it's worth the effort to do that, compared to just finding a big party every couple of months and feeling sad about it.

  • The average spotify 3:40 song is going to be about 4MB. This only changes to triple (10MB at the same length for premium and high quality) that size when you pay for it.

If Spotify is using more than 50MB on the audio cache, they absolutely deserve to get ragged on for it.

  • If you have to engage, swear at them. Most LLMs don't swear without a lot of cajoling.

  • Wrong hand. He has paint on it in the fourth panel.

  • That's what Disney did.

  • I don't buy into the "anyone can build a gun" argument anyway.

Bullets in america are not tracked, logged, or otherwise managed in any way by the american government. They don't matter for making a gun because literally anyone can walk up to their local pawn shop and get some without any identity checks or other hassle.

Guns made by 3d printers are kinda shitty, in the exact same way that jellyfin is kinda shitty compared to Netflix. They both do the job, but one just takes more time and effort to get running.

Making a untracked 3d-printed glock is entirely doable by the average Joe.

    When things are different

  • I've switched from similiar-sized apartment with a tank heater to a house with a tankless heater. My bills are close enough that it isn't super easy to tell. total it was about 20-40 more a month for the location switch.

The real difference is how often you use it. You'll save money if you use it sparingly (as opposed to an always on tank heater), but you'll definitely spend more if you don't (because infinite hot water access!). Just make sure it and it's power source is sized for the house it's going into.

You'll definitely want to pay for an electrician to get it on a dedicated circuit to power it. Otherwise you'll just get infinite tepid water instead.

  • gotta be specific, but my tankless water heater has actually been pretty okay actually.

Context! I live in Texas, which actually has some pretty great renewable use compared to other states. My personal plan isn't solely wind powered anymore, but it has been in the past, and still partially is right now.

My house is a super cheap remodel. The tankless water heater is completely electric.

My repair costs have been as follows: complete replacement of the heater cores: 70$.

    • two out of three failed over the course of a year and a half.
    • I also paid for the plumber to figure out what the issue was, but i'll be able to replace them on my own pretty easily whenever this happens again

I also paid plumber and electrician costs to move the water heater so i could actually get at them without pulling the whole thing off the wall (thanks shitty remodel!)

$200 for the plumber to run the cleaner through it, since i have super hard water here

    • and another half grand to install the valves required to actually be able to do that (thanks shitty remodel!)
    • I'll be able to get my own cleaning kit for one to two hundred online in the future.

So like, because i'm new at taking care of one, and because of the shitty remodel, I have paid over a gran in 'repairs' on the thing. But, at the same time, the next time it needs replaced heater cores, or to get it's annual cleaning, it'll cost me basically nothing.

Energy costs haven't been much more expensive than a tanked water heater either, but it's hard to compare considering those tank water heaters also ran in a different location with different AC needs. And I take super long showers, which I was straight up unable to do before moving here. I don't pay too much more than previously despite that though.

Most importantly! I can take hour long showers without running out of hot water, and being honest, that's really the biggest deal for me. I don't always do that, but sometimes I just wanna relax for a while and running out of hot water is a bitch when I do.

I'd honestly recommend a modern tankless water heater, so long as your electric can handle a load specifically sized to your house, even despite the problems i've had surrounding my own.

  • I'm at 40tb used right now. 20tb to go before I get to buy even more space!

  • I suspect that the usual alcohol/weed choices don't actually change anything. They just deaden our ability to care as much about not messing up and whatever the current sensory shit is doing. So, less autism, but only because it's less of our experience as a whole.

  • Lmao at Dwayne's knife belt. It's so over the top it's goofy.

  • One accusation from her abusive family, as an excuse for not taking proper care of her, does not make for a credible diagnosis or reason to post this here.

  • My dns config options always have at least two spots. Obviously, this means I need two piholes to fill them both up.

More seriously, it has actually saved my network from going down a couple times already.

  • That bed is not at all fine.

  • Lmaooo he knows what he's doing.

  • Me too, honestly. Finally found something that was actually a joy to share.

  • Honestly, yeah. Bazxite looks neat, but it's new and I'm still not sure what the point of it is, beyond a little bit of nerdy software management features.

Ubuntu is .. gestures vagely ... Ubuntu. Regular debian doesn't really work well for steam related activities, and I haven't actually tried fedora in ages but it looks to be doing okay at least.

It's just, mint is so basic, but that's honestly its greatest selling point. I love having good fundamental be the main selling point.

One step forward, two steps back. I always hate how politicians can be so accommodating of the popular minority while still being so discriminatory against the less popular ones.
