  • It's weird that

    • metro cops get less training than mounties
    • metro cops get way more pay
    • surrey wants the cheaper, better cops
    • Mike Farnworth has nullified their vote and decreed surrey will pay for fewer, less-trained cops for the same budget.

    So great.

  • These recent months it seems the reviewing and selling, the hype-mongering, is more about remaining employed than it is a pay bump.

It's a sad state of affairs when the inexperienced code-olympiads you hire need to transition partially from devs-as-engineers to introverts-as-showmen. It's like they hired apples, made them work like oranges, and now only keep the ones who can also be dolphins.

  • won't be going to shit if we stay the status quo.

While proven improvements are good, simply changing things because it sucks right now is not a great idea.

There is no problem so bad that it cannot be made worse, and the cons are banking on you not knowing that.

  • more competition for street parking

That's so cute how much that understates the parking thunderdome we're already seeing.

What a gong show of an infomercial.

There's no way a few laneway houses is going to do anything to the housing crisis. Towers. 60-storey towers. Let's stop messing around and bulldoze a few bungalows and the chads hoarding greenspace.

  • I love how both FB messenger and Google talk/chat/whatever were compatible for 3 months, thanks to a fucking standard, before they both "improved somewhat" to be incompatible.

  • Finally: professional engineers who engage in title snobbery are often accused of "ring knocking", as if they were physically knocking their iron ring against a desk to point out the size of the dick on top of their shoulders.

  • At least 25 years ago (correction: 25 years and 3 months since I was hired as a software engineer in America without an engineering degree).

And did you really compare a software dev with a BSc against your MSc (not a MEng?) and compare those apples and oranges as if they were peers?

Im not sure about America now, but in my country the title "P.Eng" (professional engineer) is restricted by law to those who have gained a degree as an engineer specifically, B.Eng or bigger, and have written a subsequent certification exam.

  • Lets let Bruce willis' family or val kilmer decide for themselves whether they can work a deal that lets us see their acting or likeness again and they get proper compensation. I'm not going to boycott a production with proper paperwork in place just because they use AI to make fremen eyes blue in a programmatic fashion.
