  • As a user of Seamonkey - which you'd know as Mozilla, the app that Mozilla the company ditched for being 'too hard' - I have to say no. While I trust they're not as evil as Google, I don't trust them to do the hard part of actual software maintenance.

This implies we all had a grip on it in the first place. The people drilling more for oil never held on; and are drilling less with an "aw shucks, guess we'll need more" thinking and more a "lol, the RoC can suffer and we'll be on our yacht" mentality straight out of Dallas.

    • Sometimes breaks all audio until I manually restart it (hey, just like pulseaudio. This problem never happens when using ALSA straight)

Well, how much lennart is in this thing? Not only can that predict how well it's going to work, but also how soon it'll be fixed, how responsive the 'team' will be to bug reports, how compatible it'll be with other system components AND whether 'compatibility' will be achieved before the entire OS has been systematically imported into (and badly replicated by) the project.

  • As someone who hits the cap and lives in a place where even monthly premium payments for our healthcare have been scrapped, I am really sure it's time to open up BOTH of them again.

Sure, it's a cost. Sure, it's less cash in my pocket. But holy hell, we need to keep the cash going into the system so the next right-wing nutters can't gut the services via some "fiscal responsibility" bullshit.

  • At crosswalks, drivers can go once the pedestrian is clear of the vehicle; otherwise, they may face a $300 fine (doubled in community safety zones) and three demerit points.

Careful. In Ottawa you're risking a fine. Their rules - and it varies by region - is that the pedestrian needs to be out of the crosswalk completely, and not just clear of the vehicle, before the car can continue.

This, as you can imagine, is always a bit of a surprise where it's in place -- especially in Ottawa where they tend to honk if they think you've had the chance to go and waited more than 5 milliseconds.

  • I've been in this guy's shoes.

I used to code a particular project that was somewhat popular in its own little niche. Some guy trying to make a name for himself must have gone through the docs and done everything it said not to; then reports that in such a case, it's insecure.

The other project members and I basically said "well stop doing everything it says not to". But Jerome makes a web page about it; generates a lot of buzz. We amended our docs to restate that if you do all the dumb things, you'll look dumb. And we linked to his page.

Not proud, but we had bigger fish to fry.

  • Last time they lost my bag it showed up the next day at my door, which was pretty nice.

Our nationally-named airline used to do the same: they'd lose a bag like 1% of the time, but it'd be at your door after the next flight. The bag was super-priority, and my buddy was one of the bag-bashers whose job was #1 delivery of lost bags and #2 regular baggage stuff.

Then the 90s happened and it started going to owl shit.
