What are you boycotting right now and why? Are there any Boycotts you've ended?
  • Right now I've completely given up candy and soda for about 3 years now. I hate the business practices of candy companies and how they target children and make their shit as addictive as possible. They use ultra vibrant packaging to get kids eyes to lock to the product and they know kids will beg for it until they get it and they put it on their eye level and on the sides of the checkout lines.

The entire candy thing is just scummy and I hate it so much. I personally see it as legal drugs for children.

  • What are your favorite can not live without apps?
  • Nova launcher (super customizable and clean and you can unlock premium with revanced Manager)

KWGT (allows you to create custom widgets for your phone and has a very good editor so you can jam pack all the info you want into one widget)

Revanced Manager (ad free YouTube with extra features like return dislike and sponsor block and more)

    Xmanager (free Spotify premium)

Vlc (best way to play video and audio files)

Fdroid (alternative app store which allows you to basically find a clone of most apps but open source and privacy friendly, plus a ton of other privacy respecting apps)

Aurora store (Google Play store but more customization and less Google tracking stuff attached)

Seal (allows you to download videos and stuff from basically any big site)

  • Sony's Remote Play handheld Project Q has been renamed PlayStation Portal and will be available for $199
  • It's not really fair to compare it to the wii u because the wii u was a handheld console while this is basically a hand held gaming streaming device. The wii u is more compared to other handheld consoles/computers like the steam deck or Asus rog ally.

  • not saul goodman rule
  • I saw a few of these "vandalized" billboards until I looked it up and realized it's just an advertising scheme. It's so fucking stupid because I thought these fuckers got what they deserved until I realize they themselves did it just to get people to look at their ads more and create discussion.

  • Hm yes, apparently I harassed someone by telling them it's fucked up to jerk off to people being hurt. Reddit moment
  • I got banned for 3 days because I told a pedophile in dm's (he messaged me first and I said I was 16) to kill himself and then a few hours later reddit banned me and when I put in an appeal they rejected it.

But at least it gave me my final push to move to lemmy.

  • Do you think millennials who grew up with the early Internet and home computers will be as bad with future technology as boomers are with current technology?
  • It seems like most people at my highschool are familiar with their basic favorite apps and can get a not great grasp on new applications and programs. But other than that it seems like a lot of people seem hopeless because they might now how to use their favorite apps well, but the second anything errors out of bugs out or they install a new app that isn't so user friendly their brain just powers down. They don't even try to Google it.

This is one thing that kinda concerns me is they people stay in their little apple ecosystem and use the most basic apps they don't really get that experience of actually googling s error code or a specific bug. Even people who use their phones half the day still don't know shit about anything because they don't leave their bubble.

But I know it's not everyone's thing to try to step out of the bubble and learn how to troubleshoot and fix stuff. But there is so much cool stuff out there that they just refuse to learn because they didn't immediately understand the app. It's like they are scratching the ice with how much they can do with their devices and they don't even try to go deeper.

  • Whats stopping someone from creating a instance that host illegal content?
  • But I mean you can host it publicly and be fine if you put enough effort into hiding yourself I would assume. But even if it's in plain sight doesn't mean it won't be taken down quickly. Also it depends on country to country too, some counties might take swift action while some might put it on the back burner for a long time or won't even try at all.

But anyone anywhere can host an instance and they can try to hide the best they can and it might actually work. Yes it's a stupid decision to do that in the first place but that won't stop people. Even if it's up for a week then that's a problem.

  • Whats stopping someone from creating a instance that host illegal content?

I've seen the controversy where lemmy.world defederated from 2 piracy instances. So since there is no one big owner what is stopping someone creating a instance that host CP or other illegal stuff?

From what it seems like is instances can try to defederate from those instances but the only justice that can happen seems only from government/police but that only works in certain countries because more can just pop up bypassing the defederation.

I'm kinda concerned if this issue has no solution because it's a pretty sharp edge of the double edge sword of having instances anyone can create and host.

Because someone can just host a CP instance and now that instance even if defederated from other instances still provides a safe space for pedophiles to share content and other illegal stuff.

Also what is stopping someone from creating an instance that has a slur for its name and then go around in other federated instances and post comments and make post. Like you don't want someone named "NAZI_LOVER@n-word.f-slur
