  • They damn well better have the endurance, they likely won't get a choice as Putin steamrolls onto Belarus and then Poland or whatever they're planning.

  • Wait, I thought a goatee is what is labelled 'circle' ... is that a Canadian thing or ?

  • Looks delicious to me!

  • Neat, will try it out.

Has anyone written an android desktop search widget for it? A quick search only foumd one veeery old experimental project.

  • So Canada should call out the elephant in the room. Demand a special meeting of all NATO members (forget inviting the US) and discuss how to proceed kicking out the USA. They can re-apply once they've cleaned up their fascist infestation.

  • So kick US out of NATO. They can re-apply once they're done with fascism.

  • BTW the Miniterm pictured in the top-left of the first group also has the APL symbol set.

  • Not surprising, the entire world now has seen in just the past week how enthusiastically Google licks the boot (see 'Gulf of Mexico')

  • Whenever I see someone asking about or speculating that users need somewhere else to go... I direct-message them and give them links to https://feddit.org/search and encourage them to make a login on some instance...

So far it doesn't seem reddit is snooping on direct messages ... yet

  • Absolutely -- I hate how we've been raised to think of time in monetary terms; I have to remind myself on days off that "No, I do not need to do anything it's my day off! I can sleep in... no need to be productive ..."

  • I've been meaning to try out Reaper DAW under Linux on my old tower system when I (eventually) get set up again. I hope it might work well enough... then I can dump Windows on that machine entirely.

  • Tip if you're shopping laptops: stay away from any newish ASUS models. Sadly ASUS seems to still think Linux is some 'minor' thing that doesn't merit any support and they love making things a little custom...

I like my dual-screen Duo 2024, but the detachable keyboard and sound still aren't properly supported. :(

  • Just like the world assured Ukraine it could give up its nukes and nothing bad would happen, right?

No one should ever trust the US for anything, for a long long time.

  • Well of course.. a) he wants the 'good' interference (the sort that has helped him and his fascist cohorts so far), and b) "Elections? Weren't those something the US used to do? We don't bother with those any more."

  • Europe needs to tell the US to f-off and call the bluff, just invite themselves with Ukraine under their wing to their own peace-talk, and let Putin know the time and place... if Putin or his negotiators won't show up (which is likely), then Russia obviously isn't serious about peace so start ramping up the equipment and troop shipments to protect the front lines.

Ukraine should 110% reject ANY proposal to give the US or another foreign power 'carte blanche' deals for some slice of its resources in exchange for assistance; Europe needs to defend them for their own sake.

  • Delphi has been the object of teasing over the years, as for some reason lots of devs only think of old-school teaching Pascal, rather than the incredibly powerful, modern language Object Pascal became. In fact the lead for Object Pascal went on to develop C# at Microsoft, if I recall, and a lot of the good ideas there came directly from Object Pascal.

I hear it is still used a lot outside of North America?

Embarcadero still develops Delphi, but they charge a mint for it, sadly. (Well, for an individual hobby dev that is -- not a lot for a company dev budget).

The modern free alternative is Lazarus + FreePascal. it's available for a ton of platforms, and it's the open-source spiritual successor to Delphi. It's worth a good look if one wants to make cross-platform UI apps.

  • First they'll need to fight to even have a fair election in 2026 and 2028. (Hell, even to have an election).

  • wasm is short for 'web assembly', a binary format for programs to run in web browsers (like a lower-level, faster javascript). I think the goal is to have LibreOffice run in a browser with all the same capabilities as native desktop LibreOffice.

  • Until I was around 12 our family almost exclusively used powdered milk (mid-eighties). I don't recall seeing liquid milk in plastic bags like this. Is it an eastern Canada or Ontario thing? In Alberta I don't think it was common.
