  • I read headlines like this and my only reaction is;”:

    “Fucking duh”

  • I can’t help but feel like this is the most important part of the article:

The model's refusal to accept information to the contrary, meanwhile, is no doubt rooted in the safety mechanisms OpenAI was so keen to bake in, in order to protect against prompt engineering and injection attacks.

Do any of you believe that these “safety mechanisms” are there just for safety? If they can control ai, they will. This is how we got mecha-hitler, same mucking about with weights and such, not just what it was trained on.

They WILL, they already are, trying to control how ai “thinks”. This is why it’s desperately important to whatever we can to democratize ai. People have already decided that ai has all the answers, and folks like peter thiel now have the single most potent propaganda machine in history.

  • I’ve been playing with ai, pushing the limits of it as a therapy tool (I’m being honest, but I’m using myself as a test case). I’m really trying to evaluate it in good faith, mostly to try to see what’s addicting folks to it these days.

I just cannot get it to pass my “Turing test”. It’s just so sycophantic. Every time I get close to feeling like there’s something there, it falls back into the “blow smoke up your ass mode.”

So far my hours of conversing has only convinced me that folks who follow chatbot advice for such important life decisions, probably deserve it. I’m happily married, but if a girl ever broke up with me because a LLM told her to, I’d probably login to thank it (joke).

  • I’m in a similar boat, senior level IT, but I feel like I’m the only one of my peers who can see ai for what it is, I mean, I don’t hate it, it’s a tool. I do hate the tools who use it though.

I do think ai will fundamentally change the world similar to how the internet did. But, just like the early internet we’re in the midst of a bubble. This time the bubble though is full of toxic gas, and inflating it has caused so much environmental damage. We never learn our lesson so this time it’s going to be so much fucking worse. To top it all off we have the absolute worst possible stewards to guide us through when it happens.

  • If they are announcing they have recordings, she’s either already cooperating or they have plans for her death.

It’s going to be exactly what we all know they are cooking up. Only dems, with the Clinton’s being their focus. The dictator will wriggle his way out of yet another one.

  • He deserves a goddamned posthumous award. There will never a death more ‘billionaire’ than this. I mean this is cartoon level, over the top, absurdist level perfection.

I mean tell me, if you just saw the headline “Man dies after swallowing a bee at a Polo match” that your reaction is anything but “I wonder which billionaire that was.”

  • Pretty sure we’ve just been in a dead cat bounce. When it hits, it’s going to hit hard.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong about this and that Rubio is playing higher dimensional chess (stop laughing).

  • I honestly don’t know. This is a man who wrote in Ralph Nader for every presidential election of my life, until he voted for Obama. Ever since, he’s hard maga and all I get from him anymore is him calling me too woke, saying that I need to take the red pill, that this isn’t politics, it’s civil war. He’s gone completely and totally insane.

Was always a shitty father anyway, not much lost.

  • I’m middle aged now, but I have to admit, while I’ve always known there was racism still around, and still part of the government. I’m blown away though at just how much more of it, and how deeply rooted it is. The kind of people in charge right now are literal cartoon villains when I was a kid.

    I mean that literally.

  • What’s hilarious to me is how my dad and I used to talk about how reagan was a supervillain that kicked off all the shit we are dealing with today. This was maybe 10 years ago.

Now he no longer speaks to me since I refuse to “take the red pill”.

    So, apparently enough propaganda works.

  • That’s the point. They have a weapon that can be used against anyone, and it’s already shown they don’t care about due process. The courts gave him everything he needs.

  • all the "by the book" bullshit is there for cover. I felt the same way, like it needed to be done right, because the system would hold. it's very, plainy obvious to me now, especially 6 months in and seeing them fight harder against a winning candidate in their own party, than they do the criminal authoritaran, that it's all part of the same machine.

We think it's a political war, it's really a class one.

  • I wish I could disagree but every day when I try to talk about it, or get people to do something about it with me, so far 100% of time I get pushback for being alarmist, or that it’s fine, we’ll just vote better next time.

It’s more than just the apathy, it’s willing apathy, desired apathy, WEAPONOZED apathy. That’s the problem, those in control know they are working against the will of the people, but they also know the people are to scared, distracted, lazy and stupid to do anything about it.

  • wholeheartedly agree. I was but 19 years old though and less wise in the ways of the world. I occasionally try to look her up but have had no luck, I really hope she turned out ok. Been decades though.

  • Lol, this literally happened to me once.

Long story short, a girl I knew but always figured was way out of my league expressed interest in me. We quickly started dating, I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world. A few weeks go by and she just ghosts me. Nothing for weeks, I was going nuts. Finally I get a message from her, she had checked herself into the psych ward, and wound up hooking up with one of the staff while she was there.

    Dodged a real one there...

  • I was speaking in metaphor but in this climate I guess you can’t anymore.. you have a point one side is clearly worse, I’m not trying to make a “both are the same” argument. My argument is that neither will save us.

The dems have had a winning strategy for ages, they just fight harder against it, than they do their political opposition.

  • I have come to the conclusion that the entire system is wholly corrupt, top to bottom. There are decent folks in there, but they are VASTLY outnumbered. Yes, one party is worse, but when given the choice between shot or stabbed in the back, I kinda want to pick neither.
