Instance blocking should replace defederation
  • How about a compromise? Each instance can define a blocklist of other instances they don't want, which is copied to the user's blocklist when they register to the instance. Then you give an option to the user to edit the blocklist.

    This way you have the curated experience, but users have freedom to change it for themselves if they want to.

  • In Spain, dozens of girls are reporting AI-generated nude photos of them being circulated at school: ‘My heart skipped a beat’
  • This is difficult. Before AI you could do convincing fake nude pictures of anybody using photoshop and a little skill. So by your logic Adobe executives should go to jail too. Fines are good as a warning, but put the rest of the punishment on the user, not the tool

  • Why do some login flows hide the password field until after you submit your username?
  • I'd love to see passwords die out.

    Me too, public key based authentication would be so much better, and safer too. But that would require intelligent end users, which is impossible.

    How would you replace it instead? Biometric?
