French tarot is still played and is quite fun, especially when you play with five people and your partner is secret and known only to them until they reveal themselves with their play. It’s a bridge-like game where you try to win tricks and the arcana are the trump suit instead of picking one of the other four suits.

As an American I'm still astounded by the idea of "playing" tarot haha. Never even occurred to me as a possibility.
The deck is way different though - I enjoy french tarot, I still have no idea how the fortune telling deck could be used for card games.
Someone lost and they just threw down a card and said 'this shit means Imma kick your ass.' and then they kicked their ass.
And playing cards predate tarot cards by forever.
