how are emails used?

Quick question, how are emails used?

Are they displayed to other users, or just for notifications?

Just for password resets and notifications if enabled. Definitely not visible to other users.
- Cool. Good to know! Makes me feel a lot more comfortable about having it on there.
I never gave an email. You don't have to on many servers.
- Not sure if it was required. I don't mind them having it if it's not displayed.
