I have a Ukrainian coworker. She's a refugee and she's still young. She managed to learn some basic Dutch in the meantime and she has a job and a life here. She already says she does not want to return even if the war would stop soon. Many of the refugees she talks to are not sure if they will return either.
The country is beyond fucked is seems.

I think Ukraine is unlikely to recover from this war, even more of what is left will be sold to private companies to pay for support.

This isn't idiocy. He's telling the western libs exactly what they want to hear, and as single glance at any liberal space (like lemmy world news for example) will confirm, liberals will disavow even megalib newspapers like WSJ when they say something else.
Also, he have a personal stake in this too. Every day of war means one more day where he's not assassinated by CIA or the pravy sektor goons, and also one more day of embezzlement from the western cashflow.
It's obvious, he's tweeting in English. Who else would it be for?
I didn't know that lemmy world is a lib space, I thought whole lemmy is a marxist space.
Pretty much all of lemmy outside lemmygrad is a lib space, especially now after the influx of reddit users. Lemmy.ml admins for example are Marxists but the majority of the users are just libs.
I think the reference is to the 'world news' community on Lemmy. So Lemmy 'world news', rather than 'Lemmy world' news.
That said, I don't think lemmy.world is Marxist, still, although it seems to have some comrades and we get some good faith discussion with them.
At the moment, I think Lemmygrad is the only explicitly Marxist instance, and mainly Marxist-Leninist at that. Other instances tend to be more broad church/liberal, although some are outright and unapologetically reactionary.
