They use male pronouns for Pyro and he does not seem to mind.
However, Team Fortress Classic’s Pyro is officially female.
Also, there are women in TF2 lore and boys in Touhou lore.

There are boys in Touhou lore, too.
Which makes the parallel fit even better since in both cases the characters of the opposite gender show up in the lore rather than the actual gameplay.
