Does anyone else find it a bit odd that aliens are all interested in human or nearly human women? One would think that most aliens would be attracted to creatures with similar characteristics to their own species. The ferengi should find us as unappealing as most of us find them.
"The Shape of Water" is my response to this.
Ferengi females have smaller lobes, implying that this is a sexually-selected trait and that the small ears of other species' females might be a huge turn-on. We already make art of alien species that have massive dump trucks and extra boobs.
Teratophilia and furries also exist. What people are attracted to isn't necessarily what God intended.
Considering how much humans are attracted to aliens (both depicted in-universe, e.g. Kirk and green women, and IRL, e.g. female fans having the hots for Leonard Nimoy as Spock), nope, I don't find it odd at all. Let's be honest: it's really just the writers projecting humanity's own proclivities on the aliens anyway.
That's Earth's shtick. People think it's pluck or determination, but no. It's near-universal fuckability.
I mean, Leeta’s very into Rom.
And Jake sure does love Bajoran women. And Riker and Paris chased every bit of alien tail they could find until settling down with a half human. And Dax seems to have mostly gotten bored with dating Trills after a few hosts and was interested in mating with other species.
The point is that there are a TON of interspecies relationships throughout all of Star Trek.
