Exactly the same thing that every other country has done.
Now how about reporting on some news?
- Precisely. Canada ditched the penny in 2013 when paying cash. Still exists for digital payments.
  It really made virtually no difference other than that the Mint saved billions.

Rounding. In my country they'll then claim not to have the nickel and try to shortchange you hoping yould turn a blind eye. I hate this practice and always call them out. It's the principle of the thing.
