  • Decades ago I considered opening a restaurant with my sister.

We built a business plan. We studied menu design, food waste calculations, dollars per seat per hour, advertising costs, time to profit, and a million other things.

Our business analyst said that 2/3 of new restaurants went under in their first year, m8ostly because NOBODY THINKS ABOUT THOSE THINGS!

So every time I hear about how a billion restaurants will be going under, I remember that they are almost all started by people with three great recipes and no clue.

  • I agree and try to avoid 'Americans' as much as possible, but USians is awful and will never catch on.

I tend to say US folks or yanks when it flows well. It's not perfect, but it mostly works.

I'll never use USians, and most people will judge you poorly for trying to legitimize it.

  • Come on, there's no way you can believe that.

It wasn't a mistake. The "mistake" was in not raising their prices as fast or as much as they possibly could, and so they just decided to not to honour it, and crank the price next time around - because they could.

This is pure greed, plain and simple.

  • Yeah, DAWs are definitely one of those niche things that keep people using Windows. I'm an Ableton user as well, and it's one of a few Windows apps that I struggle to replace.

My wife teaches post-secondary, and stays on Windows because all of the commercial CAD software is for Windows. (AutoCad, Sketchup, Pro Tools, etc.)

  • Albertan here. If we didn't have a fucking separatist traitor as a premier, Canadian sales would be even lower.

Marlaina "Danielle" Smith quietly put all US products back on the shelves and continues to import American booze.

  • This article is making the rounds, and I'll say here what I've said elsewhere:

    Cassettes are CRAP!

I did a lot of recording back in the day, using a good 3-head deck and good tape. I manually adjusted the bias for best results, and really pushed the format to its best. At the end of it all though, cassettes were never a hi-fi format and mostly sucked.

You want to own your music? Digital downloads are cheap and convenient. You want physical media? Buy CDs (audio quality, convenience, longevity) or records if you must.

Cassettes are loved by insecure hipsters. The rest of us actually like music.

  • One difference is that U.S. liberals are still likely to believe in American exceptionalism.

Americans almost universally believe they are fundamentally the best - moral leaders of the world, even if they have temporarily lost their way.

The great protest folk singers from the U.S., such as Woody and ArlonGuthrie, the Seegers, and so many others, feel that they're fighting the good fight to bring the U.S. back to where it was meant to be: the 'leader of the free world.'

It's an infectuous ego that taints the U.S. psyche on a deep and profound level.

  • There are three of us in the house, and I wash them weekly, more or less.

As for replacing them, I don't know what to say. We destroy towels in about ten years. My mom had towels that were 20-30 years old and as good as new.

  • I disagree with some of your thoughts here.

I don't see the separatists (meaning the separatist organizers) as lazy - they're disciplined, extremist, and quiet. Coinciding with Trump's victory last year, we've seen a huge upswell of hard-right conservative movements around the world, simultaneously attacking immigration and women's rights in relatively coordinated action.

It seems like they've been working in the dark for decades, and now are stepping out into the open for an all-out assault on the progress we've made.

Also, Kenney didn't lose the leadership. He said he'd stay on if he got a single vote above 50%, but then jumped ship with a 51.4% approval rating. He steered the party in the direction he wanted, and then handed the wheel to Smith to take the blame.

But you're absolutely right about money. There's a LOT of it feeding the separatist fuckwits, and I want to know where it's coming from. Is it the US government directly, or Musk for some twisted reason? Is it another government trying to destabilize the country? Oil executives? It's not primarily coming from Alberta, that's for sure.
