Nobody's opinion on immigration has anything to do with legality. To prove it, just ask them if they would be OK with immigration if we legalized all of it.
You will find that "legal/ illegal" is 100% a stalking horse for another opinion they're not so comfortable espousing.
I wouldn't be ok with that. But I also think the path to legal immigration needs fixing. And that for example farm workers should have a legal way into the country for work, while also being provided the same worker protections every citizen gets.
