If we were smart, we'd realise that the fascists have done a lot of our legwork for us with their sustained attacks on "libruuuls!", allowing us the opportunity to properly problematise liberalism in a way that the left has utterly failed to do all throughout the second half of the 20th century right up til now.

Unfortunately, I just don't think we're that smart - they do say not to interrupt your enemy while they're making a mistake, but the point's moot if you don't bother taking advantage of said mistake.

Except their attacks have been against things we support, such as equality, humanity, and basic decency. They haven’t been attacking the liberals for capitalism, they attack them for supporting trans people &c.
Likewise the people who are targets of said legwork, are not the people we want on our side. They’re the nutcases who believe whatever some “strongman” type tells them, and lack any critical thinking ability.
Truth in the Liberals are the only ones you can convert, and they’re shockingly enough defensive about “libruul” complaints after sustaining them from fascists.

  Counterpropaganda isn't just about countering propaganda directly - it's about using the enemy's narrative contradictions to sow confusion and doubt amongst the faithful.

  The actual role that liberalism plays in deradicalising and co-opting the left is a far greater danger to the left than the violence of fascists. In fact, without liberal co-optation it's highly probable that fascist violence will even succeed against the left.
  Again... good luck "converting" that.
