This reminds me of "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" and the huge push from Square Enix to bill the main character Aki Ross as the first "digital actress". There's obvious differences with this, but I still remember buying magazines with Aki on the cover and seeing interviews about how she was the future of the film industry.
I think a big part of why so many people follow celebrity culture is fantasizing about "what if that were me?"
When they try to take the people out of the equation, the reception is going to be indifferent, at best.

Hah, clever girl starts to understand how ridiculous her income is for the job she does. In a decade, all those celebrities would sit in their mansions and drink to stupor, recalling the days when people remembered their names. Next, the football teams would be replaced by robots.
- Not all actors are rich. There are plenty of actors who never make it past the end credits.
  
  I remember meeting a character actor who had bit parts in a lot of things. He was instantly recognizable, but nobody knows his name. He told me the worst part is that because he's "famous," people expect him to be rich. Like service workers expect $100 tips at restaurants and hotels, and he's like "I'm here for a job application."
  
  That's good.
Really scary for her. The world could do with a few less overpaid celebrities.
- Celebrity culture sucks, but replacing them with celebrity AIs is much worse, much sadder, and much weirder. Also, despite celebrity culture sucking, a lot of celebrities are artists. I don't want artists to go away. I want the suits to go away.

- Most actors are "working actors," and are working class. They're literally unionized.
