unpopular opinion: if your pet has cancer, is constantly sick or requires intensive medical attention - put it down.
i have had many different pets and could never understand how some owners would give pets more treatment, than regular people in poor countries could afford. almost no animal has even close to the lifespan of humans. pet owners need to get comfortable with loosing them.
And it's the kindest thing you can do. Knowing when to say goodbye is hard but it's your obligation as your pets caretaker.
Even more unpopular, let people do what they want. Some people consider their pets a big part of their life, and love them even more than they do people. And just like we do with sick people that would probably be better off being put down, we try to keep them alive and give them the best possible life. It’s selfish, I know. But you have no right to tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t do about the life of their loved ones. And that includes pets.
This is a very shallow take on a subject which deserves nuance.
Some cancers are very treatable. If you choose to adopt an animal into your family but withhold medical treatment because you don't think they're worth it, then maybe you shouldn't be trusted with the welfare of a living being.
Of course most people support euthenasia for pets that are beyond the point where modern medicine can give them a good quality of life. That's not an unpopular opinion.
Thats a very shallow take on reality you have here.
Sure, being a good owner means providing care, safety, food, entertainment and most of all: love.
But still, its a dog. (Or cat. Or rabbit or whatever.)The moment the situation could sink you financially, that is the moment you pull the plug, take the hit, the pain and move on. You have that choice with an animal. And 9 out of 10 times it's the best option for everyone, including the animal.
You don't hurt something, create more suffering just because you can't take the loss.
Looking at the last year of my Fathers life we all (himself first and foremost) wished we had that humane option as well. Fall to sleep. Float away painless. But alas, for humans we don't have that option. For reasons no sane people can explain we humans must cruelly endure a lot of pain, mental stress and indignation in that final period.
And we should not extend that cruelty (because thats what it is, most life prolonging "final" care in our seniors) to our pets.
Accident? Broken paw? Appendicitis? Or similar fixable stuff? fix it!
Liver or kidney failure? Heart disease? Cancer? Brain damage? (Partial) Paralysis?
Nah. Don't hurt it and yourself more. Take the loss.
This is just not Lewis' year 😭 Hoping Roscoe wakes up and pulls through
I know people grieve in different ways, but posting pictures of your comatose dog in social media feels ... a bit weird to me; I don't know if it is actually common and I'm just unfamiliar with that. Still, wishing both Lewis and Roscoe the best.
I know the pain of loosing a pet. But messages like Hamilton's on social media do give me the creeps: rich man problems.
Poor people currently are fighting to get their kids into a hospital. Rich people postpone their work to be with their dog in IC. Then they post it on social media for... For what? Scoring Social Media points? Empathy?
Social media sucks!
How the fuck is being sad about his dog a rich person problem? Tf is wrong with you
Rich man can't be sad because poor people have it worse. What a dumb take. Roscoe went everywhere with Lewis and is very popular among his fans, why would he not share such a moment. If you don't care because "other people have it worse" then read something else.
Wow you've reached rock bottom huh? I hope you get better.
Aw man, that’s horrible to hear
The most sane reaction.
They give us so much.
