leaving pixel
My mother has a Google Pixel 7, and about six months ago it started getting incredibly hot, and I thought nothing of it, and we've managed to factory reset it, and it worked fine, but now it's doing it again, and after seeing all the issues with the Google Pixel A lineup and catching fire, I'm very concerned, so we are going to replace it.
Well with the new potential requirement Google plans to implement that will require all apps on Googles android devices to be verified and distributed by their system, it may be time to leave Appl- I mean Google all together.
The days of an open android and a non-evil google are almost completely gone.
I hope we don't get there. There's really nothing I can do about it, so I just gotta hope.
This apparently only applies to devices running Google Play Services, so as long as you make sure to buy a device you can put lineage on and do not use gapps you're fine and can use any app you still want.
So much for my friend being able to download new pipe and use YouTube without ads anymore, though.
Would this mean we can't have F-droid and the like?
From what I currently understand, they will need to be approved by Google, so F-Droid and many of the popular apps will likely still be available, but the overall selection will be limited. This will apply to devices with Google Play Services. If you are using a custom rom without Google Play Services, then this change will not affect you.
Not sure what this means for the 3rd party branches of android
